e fans

i know this has been hashed out several times before, but i am interested in possibly adding electric fans on my truck. there are a couple things that im not sure about the fans, how many cfm per fan do i need? im planning on installing two fans but dont know how big they need to be. i am going to do soome more research on thermostats and things like that so i may be back with more questions.... thanks for the help since i am not familiar with this kind of project.

Generally 5,000 cfm (2500 ea) is a safe bet. Two 16" fans will fit PERFECTLY onto your radiator with about an inch to spare. theoretically straight-blades will pull about 300 more CFM, while the s-blades are quieter. I've never heard a straight-blade setup but mine are virtually silent and with the engine off they emit a soft humm. They also sound like a jet engine when the wind down

here are my two fans mounted with custom brackets on my dual-core radiator (stock radiators are the same width). my fans are ebay specials. IIRC they were $40 each, with a lifetime warranty. my controller is a Hayden Imperial, 30A from autzone. fans and controller have about 2 yrs, 25,000 miles on them no problems

where did you get the K&N for your fridge, does it blow any colder air with the new intake?

Ive had efans for about 4 years, i replaced the fans after about 3 years for peace of mind, after i was in a front end collision. Definitely recommend doing your own setup instead of purchasing a kit

Do some homeworkmon this before you jump. I have a total of five, yes 5, electrical meltdowns. One almost burnt through the battery. One fan failure, and two controller failures.

Do they work?? Hellz yea...they do the job. And I'd arguably have to admit it's the best mod I've done to my motor that I can really feel seat of the pants. Would I do it again???not a chance. The HP is the reason to install fans because as food as they are, they do not out cool the stock fan/shroud combo.

Yeah the efficiency and design of the blades on the stock mechanical fan pulls a MASSIVE amount of air (I believe up to 7500cfm), but two 16" fans will pull the minimum needed. My truck never goes a hair over 185* even in 105* weather, stop and go traffic, with A/C on full blast.

How do you go about doing that? How much money do you save?

You can put your own package together and follow the how-to to mount them.

The controllers have been redesigned with reversed polarity which should make them more reliable. I just installed two new ones, working fine so far.

thanks for all of the replies. does anyone have any experience with a e fan set up and towing? i pull a derby car and a bed full of tools a couple times during the summer and i dont want to risk over heating. so far it sounds like a good idea to build your own kit, but buying something like the troyer kit woud take out a lot of guess work...... this is going to take some serious consideration....

Yes, you should have two controllers. The ones in the links are the same controller with two different probe set ups.

I tow a lot with mine, but I think my results do not apply to you as I have a 250LD radiator. I've never experienced a condition towing where my fans couldn't keep it cool.

But keep in mind something I'll repeat from my earlier post...the reason for e-fans is not increased cooling capability. Hard to beat the stock fan for moving air. E-fans are to remove that drag from the motor for HP.

I've towed a ~4000 lb pop-up and a bed full of bikes and coolers with my efans no problem. On the highway they don't even come on, they just stay on a little longer when I'm searching through the gears in town though

thought id throw this out there just in case any of you forgot.

in order to get the full potential out of your fans, you need a shroud. dont get me wrong, you dont NEED a shroud for it to work, but if you want the FULL potential of your fans, you need a shroud.
