4x4 vacuum system revisited

Hello again,
After reading some of the great threads here on this subject I took a good look under the hood of my 1999 F-150XLT and found numerous reasons why the 4x4 function doesn't operate. First for what ever reason the three vacuum lines(pink, blue&black) coming from the vacuum motor are all jaggedly, almost appearing molten severed a short distance(2") from the vacuum solenoids. Also the two top solenoid vacuum supply lines are also severed in the same manor as the others. No observable vacuum is present on either of these two supply lines
Questions : Is this breakage issue of the lines because of age and excessive brittleness or did some one hack them up?
Want to trace the vacuum back to the reservoir to see why there is none at the solenoids. It was noted by a poster that the reservoir was located under the right fender? I noticed that the feed lines go down into a space between the fire wall and the battery. It appears the battery has to be removed in order to get at the reservoir? Last can these severed lines be spliced/ patched up and with what material? Thank you in advance

Thank you for response, very good information. Now information regarding vacuum supply to the solenoids need be obtained so 4x4 function can be restored.
Thanks again!

Ok this is whats going on: all three lines from the vacuum motor are broken as are all the mini tubes to the solenoids. There is no vacuum feeding either solenoid. Want to trace all feed lines back to the resivoir. It looks like the battery and tray need be removed in order to acess the resivoir? Anything I am missing here?
Thanks again
