Horn not working...
Horn not working...
Hey guys, having a little problem with my 01 XLT. The horn will not sound when the button on the steering wheel is pressed but it will go off when I lock the truck. Had a dealer tech take a look when he was performing the cruise control recall but he couldn't find anything, any ideas?
Yeah I was hoping that wasn't the issue because I do not want to go looking the steering wheel because of the airbag, I was just wondering if this was a common issue with these trucks that had an easy diagnosis or fix.
Thanks,
John
I think the horn (from steering wheel) goes though the clock spring for the airbag. I'd say check there

Any answers for horns that sounds right when locked, but only one horn beeps when the horn button is pressed? I get strange looks when my high tone horn only beeps...
Jbrew, I'll send you a PM if your info will help.

Use your middle finger and playground voice. Works for me.
Haven't checked the fuses, mostly because the horn still sounds when I lock the truck so I feel like that wouldn't be the issue. Unless the button is on a different fuse than the horns themselves, I guess I'll check that out.
This is word for word from the manual.
Horn:
Note: check the fuses before beginning electrical diagnosis.
At step 3 it sais
If the horn does sound, check for voltage at the terminal when the horn button is depressed. (terminals are on the horn) If there is voltage on the terminal, check for bad ground.
4. If there is no voltage at the horn check the relay. Note that most horn relays are either the four terminal or externally grounded three terminal type.
5. If the relay is OK, check for voltage to the relay power and control circuits. If either of the circuits is not receiving voltage, inspect the wiring between the relay and the fuse panel.
6. If both relay circuits are receiving voltage, depress the horn button and check the circuit from the relay to the horn button for continuity to ground. If there's no continuity, check the circuit for an open. If there's no open circuit, replace the horn button.
7. If there is continuity to the ground through the horn button, check for an open or short in the circuit from the relay to the horn.
