Old rusty parts?

Klitch 04-13-2010 07:35 PM

 No you didn't just say that?!

8 years old parts, newer than my friggin truck!

Lightning Expo 04-13-2010 07:43 PM

Attemping a straight axle conversion huh? Are those D60s?

RayD 04-13-2010 08:25 PM

Nice Klitch! You gonna do your own fab work? Farmboy just released some complete kits but I'm guessing you knew that. :D We need pics when this swap gets under way! :beers:

Klitch 04-13-2010 09:31 PM

Once I get the rear on the ground, and power to it, and whenever calipers show up for it I'll be ordering the front kit from farmboy fab like you mentioned :)

Front from the knowledge I have of it is the D60 (yay no d50!) and the rear is the 10.5, all from a 2002 truck.

alex7191 04-13-2010 10:10 PM

hell yeah!

str8t six 04-13-2010 11:26 PM

sweet!! are you gunna lift it more or keep it low?

b2therad 04-13-2010 11:29 PM

Oh geez... gimme your rear with those 4:88s.

Klitch 04-14-2010 12:15 AM

Gonna stick with the ride height I have now, maybe wind up an inch higher but I don't want to go too high that I cant get under my camper.

B2rad, Im not sure you really want them...
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...tch9/025-2.jpg
I haven't been nice to it.

b2therad 04-14-2010 12:21 AM

 so if I do this 5.4 w/ s/c swap then I am going to be destroying rear ends like this too?

Klitch 04-14-2010 12:23 AM

You plan on stepping on that skinny pedal right?

b2therad 04-14-2010 12:44 AM

 I sure do!

thejake1989 04-14-2010 12:45 AM

more on photobucket, more at FTC as well.

str8t six 04-14-2010 01:05 AM

why do you have such bad luck with rear ends? there are alot of guys with bigger tires and Lightning chargers that dont have any problems.

maybe its the driver? LOL

Klitch 04-14-2010 01:08 AM

I honestly question the axle itself, I do not know if it is straight, personally I don't think it is. but outside of that, I really don't know, soon as I get brave and step on it, I get to do it about a dozen times then *BANG!* SHTF. maybe its the load behind the truck, and romping on it that does it in? Terry trailers aren't the lightest things from the 80's that I've seen, sure did follow my truck in a hurry

bigreen2 04-14-2010 09:38 AM

I wouldnt fully weld those perches on just yet, until you know your pinion angle. If you do a shackle flip, it will change greatly (though I dont recommend it with a camper).

BTW, that is a D60

4.2trimble 04-14-2010 09:43 AM

This should be a good build, now order the parts.

minimonster17 04-14-2010 11:05 AM

FWIW, Klitch keeps popping the 8.8 because it is weak. a 9.75 would have held up to his abusive driving. but D60's are even better:D

b2therad 04-14-2010 12:05 PM

^ arent the D60s the front axles? I thought the sterlings were the ones for the rear? Like the 10.25 or something like that.

4.2trimble 04-14-2010 12:29 PM

Yes 10.25 and 10.5 are fords rearends 3/4 -1 ton. Dodge uses/used d60 and d70 rear axles. The sterling axles I believe are stronger. The strongest of the 3/4-1tons imo is the gm corporate 14 bolt and from what I've heard they are easier to set gears in.

JNC995 04-14-2010 12:59 PM

Hey Klitch, there is a guy locally selling some doors that are the same scheme as your truck. Shipping would probably be a female dog, but just letting you know.

Can't wait to the the SAS done. Gonna be BA.

b2therad 04-14-2010 01:00 PM

I hate it when shipping is a female dog.

Thanks for the heads up, you too Cecil I hadn't seen this yet. Thanks for confirming my suspicion that I dragged the rangers bumper with that big ol D60 in the back

940 # axles, without calipers. In case anyone ever wonders.

I'll take a mail order bride in German form, or Swedish.

JNC, thanks for the notice, mine still close and keep water out. unless something happens unexpectedly I'm good :D
