By no means am I a frame integrity expert, but i would guess that heavily notching out the stock crossmember would weaken its integrity severely, and may leave the chance for the frame to pop open at some point under stress.

i was looking at the frame of my truck the other day, and was pondering if it would be possible to brace the frame to prevent it from spreading, cut the ifs crossmember out, cut off the parts where it droops down off, and weld the straight portion of what is left of it back in a manner that it just stretches between the two rails, and braces them together.

I would imagine it would take some stress to break a proper weld, the concern would more be of flexing/distortion.

yeah, that 's what i tried to explain by popping open. something shifting where it is not supposed to. you'll get it figured out, i've read through all of your engine/transmission build saga threads, lol.

I have a weld-R I'll get it done

I figure the gauge of metal, and a couple of gussets to compliment the notching would probably work out well, but time will tell.

i noticed in the pictures that the rear shocks are not hooked up yet. are you gonna relocate the shock mounts on the sterling axle, or the ones on the frame to mount them?

once I get the truck moved I need to weld the perches, and paint

if your truck is 4WD the, new rear end's ratio must match the front differential's ratio. if you're swapping from an 8.8, you'll have to shorten the rear driveshaft 1 1/4''. don't hijack someones thread, either.

I believe one caliper leaks, so I will probably be pulling calipers off again, rebuilding the cylinders. and I'll probably throw more paint down.
