Honestly, went to a Carquest location that mixes factory paint matches, got some Arizona Beige Metallic put into some rattlecans and did that. I primed the surfaces first. I didn't clear it because they told me I didn't have to I guess. The metallic paint was really hard to apply, had to do TONS of light coats, but it turned out pretty good.

Yea I wasn't sure about the door molding either, but I didn't want to do the rockers (well I wanted to but I realized it would have been a ton of work edit: and easy to screw up especially with the paint I used) and I wanted something between the wheel wells to kinda bring it together, so thats what I decided on. Wasn't crazy about it until I saw the end result and was pretty happy!

Carquest does that? Huh, I imagine that's a better quality than duplicolor. How does it shine in person ? Sometimes it's hard to tell by the pics. What do you think, could it use 2 or 3 coats of clear ? I'll have to inquire at the Carquest's around my area. It may be cheaper to go over the lower panels that way on my truck.

Looks great, nice job!

Question

Did you sand it down first before primed

jbrew: From what I hear SOME car quest locations do paint mixing. It seems to be decent quality and they knew what they were doing. He told me I didn't need clear, that it was already in the paint supposedly. It shines, but not so much you can see your reflection or anything, so not factory or pro but I think it looks good. In my experience with using clearcoats in the past I've never noticed a huge difference, but I may still try it.

mike: Yea I did sand the surfaces with a real fine grain.

Alright, Yea I guess the norm is 3 base then 3 coats of clear to make shiny happen. Having the clear mixed in like you had already, a couple shots of clear might get it real close to factory. If that's what your after.

A few years ago I couldn't make it happen with the Duplicolor products going with 5 coats of clear lol. It was okay, but just.

Thanks for the info, I'll call around the Carquest stores in my area and see if they offer the same.

X2

I'd have left the door molding green or taken it off, now it looks out of place, it looks way better without that "silver line"
