brake problems

hey guys my 97 ford is starting to have a bake problem. the pedal is a little mushy, and when i get the truck stopped finally and sit at a stop light it takes probably ten seconds for the calipers to fully let go of the rotor. i can push on the brake a couple of times to get the pedal to stiffen up also. please help, thank you

Try bleeding them. Sounds like you have some air in the line or low on fluid.

x2. If this doesn't do the trick you might wanna check the pistons in your calipers.

A flush of the brake lines may not be a bad idea either.

Ford's calipers are really ****ty, IMO. I've had mine lock up on me twice. And by lock up, I'm talking blue smoke POURING out of the wheel wells. Took almost 8 hours to fully cool down.

Air in your line would cause you having mushy or weak brakes. I would tend to think thats the master cylinder or a proportioning valve.

Replacing the master cylinder would mean you would need to flush the whole system and then replace it. Then bleed all the brake lines again.
