New guy with a cruise control problem

Hi guys. I need some direction. I'm pretty new to Fords. I just purchased a 98 F150 Lariat 3 door with the 4.6 and 5 speed stick. So far I like the truck.

The cruise control does not work. I've searched the forum for clues and found some information but it's been no help so far. So, here goes.

It seems the recall has been done since there is a fused wiring harness from what I presume is the SCDS and the fuse is good. All other fuses in the system are in good order.
I did find the instructions and tried to run the cruise control self test and here's the problem to this point. I don't see a cruise control indicator light and the owners manual does not show it's location so trying to run the self test just doesn't work.

Where in the world is that cruise control indicator light/lamp located?

common sense for me says the CC indicator light is the one on the cluster that lights up when you engage cruise?

other than that, no idea. try posting in the elec. forum, you'll get better responses there

The cruise control does not engage so there is no light and the reason I asked here is I'd think anyone who owns a F150 within the range of years of this particular forum would be able to direct me to which part of the instrument panel I should expect to find the light.
If it came on during the pre start self test, as do the other lights one would normally find at that time, or it it showed in the owners manual I wouldn't have the need to ask it's location.

I will go ahead with a cross post though as well.

the cruise light on my dads 99 superduty is burnt out and cruise still works.

See if you got power to the servo box under the hood. If you have power to the servo box then try swapping out the box with one from the junk yard.

Thanks, I did do some manual troubleshooting and found the CCDS was bad so the cruise is working now but I'd still like to know the location of the indicator light. This truck has the optional instrument panel.

As to the swap out, I'm not much for throwing parts at a problem and would rather do the necessary diagnostics.

take the cluster out its probably the light burnt out. I couldn't tell you which one it is in your cluster but it should be easy to figure out.

Before you tear the dash apart I'd just like to mention that my 1999 does not have a cruise indicator light.

I can't believe Ford would decontent something like that from 1998 so what you are looking for does not exist.

Also since you are new to Ford's, a Lariat with a stick is very, very rare. Only '97 and '98 was it even possible and the top trim line almost always had an Auto.

Thanks for the info Raoul.
There are some instrument panel lights out and I'll be pulling it apart to replace the bulbs anyway so it will be a great time to double check on the cruise indicator light. The lack of one on your '99 fits right in with why I cannot find any sign of a light being there on my '98.

I have owned Fords in the past and managed a couple of fleets that ran Ford autos & light trucks, though not recently.

Have you downloaded the owner's manual and looked in it yet?

http://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenanc...ls/default.asp

Available back to 1996.

Yes, thank you. I also have the stock owners manual and neither show the indicator light so I believe Raoul is correct and there is no such light on this truck.

Is it possible that the cruise control module was disconnected in advance of a recall replacement that was never performed?

EDIT: Obviously my reading comprehension skills are lacking.
