Another Newbie Hello!

Just wanted to say "HEY" and give props to this site! It's awesome! I just bought a 97 F150 XLT 2WD supercab shortbed last friday. It has a few miles on it but I got it for cheap. Carfax came back clean with 3 owners.

I've already noticed a few little quirks to it and I figured out it had been stolen and recvoered at one time. Most of the quirks have to do with that like sterring column electrical gremlins, rattling stereo faceplate, unmatched door locks, etc.

Got the door lock figured out. Why the "F" does Ford want so much for a door lock cylinder? $72 + $40 to rekey? I got one for $1 at the wrecking yard and cost me $30 to rekey and extra key. Also got the stereo faceplate while I was there, the old one had all the tabs broken off and fell out when I was prying on it.

Also had the infamous interior lights staying on when the doors are closed but because of this site I got that fixed as well. Go WD-40!

So far it's a nice solid truck and it runs and drives great. Love the site and will read it often. Ciao!

Thanks guys, I gotta say for a 13 year old truck with lots of miles it still drives solid and smooth and tight. In spite of a few quirks. It also came with beefed up rear springs with airbags electric trailer brakes and a tow package as well. Perfect for towing my boat over the mountains. For $3800 that's not bad. My plan is to keep it for a year or two and then buy a lot newer one like a 2006 or 07. Lot's a good deals on newer ones but gotta save the cash first. No car payments here!

I can't speak for the rest of these guys, but I would spend more rebuilding mine than I would on a newer one. I like this body style better than the new ones. I do wish it had some of the newer electronic follytogles, but it will get them as I find them..

I'm also a newby. I just joined the site in the last couple of days and I have to agree that it's a great site! I got my '97 F150 Reg. Cab about a month ago. The old truck has 181,000 miles on it and I don't think there is one body panel that isn't dented. Still, old LeRoy is nearly as solid as a new truck. I've always loved my Ford trucks and would love to go back and get some of my old ones back. Up to this point I've had a '70, '74, '79, '83, '85, and now "LeRoy".

Love the site so far, it has given me some great ideas for LeRoy's fix-up. Good to see I'm not the only newby. Cheers!
