Difference between green and yellow coolant?

Hi, just bought a 02 Screw with the 5.4l and would like to do a coolant flush. The manual says to use either green or yellow antifreeze? Is there a difference between the two?

It was my understanding one was bad for a Ford, and could cause corrosion inside the system. I would like to know for sure myself.

Just make sure it's not DexCool when you buy it

Green = Regular Antifreeze.

Yellow or Gold as some call it = Ford Long Life Antifreeze.

Orange = Dexcool or Chevy Long Life Antifreeze. Also came in some Toyotas.

I have been told you can switch from yellow or orange to green as long as you make sure you flush all the old stuff out first as they are not compatible. I myself have never tried that. I always run what came with the vehicle. I also know that Dexcool should never be run to its maximum time or milage limits as it turns to acid and will eat holes in your headgaskets and waterpump. I tend to run them all for about 3 years max to avoid any issues. I don't drive enough to max out on mileage. A rad flush is a whole lot cheaper than doing your headgaskets.
