So, Why Haven't you Made the Switch Yet?

..to the newer body style F150? Is it because of cost/finances or something else? For me, I'd like to upgrade, me currently with a 98 XLT SCAB, but with the price of new trucks these days, that is just alot of coin that I don't want to be strapped for. Right now mine is paid for and in really good shape. I put a crate engine in it 3 years ago and for the past 3 years it has given me great service.

Still, I'd like to move up to a crew cab with a 5.4L engine and maybe someday I will, but when that time comes I'll have the dilemma of staying with my current body style or going with the newer body style.

Whats keeping you guys from upgrading?

Lots of things. I would truly love a NBS truck but i am only 16 and paid cash for this truck and have had this truck for less than a year. Also i just love the styling of these trucks. When I am out of school I will probably upgrade, but still keep this truck for serious modifications.

Mine is paid for.. 170k and has ALWAYS been reliable. I have put too much into it to get rid of it, and I dont need a new truck. I would love to have a superduty, but I still wouldnt trade mine in to get one. I like mine too much to let anyone else touch it . I like the idea of not having payments too much also. All in all, I am being faithful to my truck for its years of service.. guess you could say it that way.

I like my body style better. Plus my truck only has a little over 73,000 miles. Plus it's paid for.

Don't like the body style. Looks like a box.
04-08 I'm getting use to, but the new trucks look like a nissan.
When it's time for a new truck, it won't be Ford unless they redesign.

Okay. So some of you don't like the NBS, but what about the improved driving dynamics, seating/ride and power of the newer ones?

Granted, those of us that have our trucks paid off is a big plus! We had to rent an 08 F150 last year while our 98 was in the shop due to an accident. We had it for 2 weeks (courtesy of the OP insurance!). It was an XLT supercrew. Yep, it did seem like a box/brick with tires, but it rode really well and the teenage kids fit very well in the back. The wife liked the bucket seats much better than my 60/40 split bench. So, I found some 01 Lariat leather seats and put them in just a couple of weeks ago. Trying to find a console lid for the supercrew console now - but I digress...

As the current owner of an 08' F150 I can tell you OBS guys....keep your trucks! Im not saying that I dont like mine but I had an 01' x-cab 4x4 and I liked it much better. It rode and drove more like a car and never gave me the first bit of trouble. Dont get me wrong, the current trucks are great trucks but me personally would rather go back to the OBS. In fact I currently have my truck up for sale. If it sells I will be looking for a clean lower mileage 01'-03' x-cab 4x4 F150. I have been looking around at a few and I cant believe the the way a clean lower mileage OBS holds its value!

Good luck to you guys in whatever you would choose to do!

Wow!
Thanks for the insightful feedback. I would have never have thought someone that had the NBS would want to go back to the NBS. So, the outboard rear shocks don't give you a better ride?

Truck is paid for and is still ultra reliable with 135K on it. The newer trucks (04+) are stronger structurally, but they are under powered in my opinion. My '02 could run circles around any 04+ and higher rig (as long as its not supercharged). I like the ride and interior of the newer rigs.

I am waiting for the engine horse power to be more on par with Dodge and Chevy before moving to a newer Ford. The Ford V8 engine should be pushing 385 to 400 hp to compensate for the heavier truck.

Oh that may make the rear end a litlle smoother but not that big a deal IMO. Id say if you guys are happy with your trucks and they arent giving you any trouble I would keep it. Sure, go drive a new one and form your own opinion but think long and hard on it before you sign any papers.

Just about an hour ago my neighbor rolled up in a spankin new F150 screw 4x4 loaded up real nice. Havent gone over to look at it yet but it sure looks sweet!! Id hate to think what that set him back.

I'm content with my "old" trucks but we've got a NBS expy and we're considering a raptor for our next purchase

I like the [engine] power of the new trucks but dont care for all the computer controlled everything. Sometimes less is more
