ok first im new here and to my 97 f150, it has 177,000 mileson it ok here it goes.
When i put it in drive the tuck every 5-10 seconds stutters lick its bout to run out of gas, its not a hard stutter but noticable. when i put it in park or nutural it doesnt really do it if it does its barely noticable, plus i think the trany might be slipping il bit any suggestions?

another thing is when i switch it to 4wd it sounds like metal grinding against each other like if your brakes grinding when worn, thats how it sounds its on and off a different speeds, any suggestoins on that?

Sounds like tranny problems...might want to take it to a shop.

 

id recommend changing the fuel filter, mine did that when the filter was bad.

now as far as the trasferrcase im not sure, mine makes a ton of racket that could possibly scare someone if they didnt know about it.

 

yea i was thinking about the fuel filter, and i was gonna chang the tranny fluid too.. does the transfer case have fliud in it? thanks again

 

yes the transferrcase has fluid in it. cant remeber off the top of my head how much.

 

Something like this happend to me and it turned out to be a missfire from a bad spark cable. replaced all 8 at once and it fixed it. Don't know why it didn't trip the CELight.

as for the 4wd thing, i can't say, i only have 2wd

top the t-case off with fluid, it has fill and drain plugs in rear of it, it takes ATF, same as our transmissions......change the fuel filter, and drain the trans fluid and fill it with fresh fluid replace the filter and add a qaurt of lucas for transmissions in place of 1 of the quarts of fluid, might fix it..

 

i took it to a shop and the said the transfer case was shot and needed a new one ..would it be cheaper to ge it rebuilt or get a new/reman one? plus i got a scanner and scanned mi obdII and 5 codes came up the check engine light wasnt on but i wanted to check

one was the speedo senser A, 2 were the 02 sensors running lean, one was the iac circ, and the other was the egr floe insig. detected......i cleard the codes and drove a lil and checked it again and only the 02 and the speede sensor codes popped up but the truck still runs a lil crappy.

What engine is in your truck?

Did the codes say that banks 1 & 2 were running lean? If it did, check for a vaccum leak.

i unplugged the bat , cleard the codes and changed mi dpfe sensor and hoses that go to it and now it runs really rough now than before??? whats going on?

 

ok its running like before i changed the sensor out and the egr po401 came back

 

i jus got a misfire code for the #4 cylinder so i might change the wires and plugs soon and see if that helps
its odd mi engine light doesnt come on either even when you start the car when all of the lights come on it doesnt come on?
