My plan for mods

Well, I just bought my 00 Lariat, scab, flareside.

unfortunately i traded in my 05 mustang gt, decently modified, to get my wife a new taurus...

so now I wanna do some mods to the truck and gain a little horse and a few mpg's.

Heres the list:

pacesetter ceramic LT's and Y pipe: less than $600
single flowmaster super 44 si/do: around $200 for a kit
airaid CAI: $265
UDP's: $169
sct x3: $370
E fans: $430

I dont plan to do much more than that... but its enough to add some get-up and have her running great and sounding good.

maybe eventually I'll do audio upgrades, but not until the performance stuff is done. I dont plan to do any lift kits or exterior stuff really, i'm happy with the way it looks.

anyway, let me know how this sounds to you guys, any better options for the money?

i plan to do all the installs myself, thats why i want to stick with bolt on stuff and easily acquirable mods..

this will be a long term project for me, doing stuff when i can scrape up the cash... probably do tuner first, then intake, then LT's and i can do udp's and e fans any time, also i can do the flowmaster any time since its just getting thrown in after the y pipe and should be fairly easy....

ill update the thread as I go!

some expensive e-fans.

I ebayed mine (derale fans) $225 + SH
Summit has a mounting bracket for the dual 16" tornado e-fans. I had to make 3 small brackets to fit those to my aftermarket radiator.

Looks like a pretty good list. I would do a search for headers on here, however. Unless you go long tube you won't see much gain. Putting them on is a real pain. One of my buddies is a Ford ASE tech, and he said when they have to do a head gasket, they actually pull the head with manifold attached.

Flowmaster is not recommended to gain Mpgs. I would do a straight through muffler like magnaflow, dynomax bullest, or borla (highly recommended)

do the gotts intake mod and save yourself some $$$$, hit up patman03sprcrew and ask about his ebay guy that can get you some quality e-fans for way less then you have budgeted...

also the OBX headers with Y pipe are $475 plus shipping, not sure if they will fit on a 4.6 thought...

go for borla mufflers and a H pipe or X pipe

just put a pipe where the muffler is and put the e fans on then get a procharger p1sc and a factory tech valve body...20 bucks for exhaust, however much for e fans, 220 for vb, 12-2200 for used blower.......way better off then dumping 1k into an exhaust....

i was looking at the e fan kit from troyer just cause its easy and seems complete, no cobbling stuff together or piecing a kit together...

i guess i should have mentioned i have the 5.4

i really dig the way the flowmasters sound, after listening to as many exhausts as i have, i pretty much have my mind made up about that.

oh and i was planning on the long tubes. I did long tubes on my stang so ive been through the whole process before, shorties arent worth the hassle for the small gains, if your gonna get in there, make it worth the effort anyway.

i have heard a lot of questionable things about the OBX header kits, i did think about them because they have a very good price point, but i would rather go with a reputable company over saving the dough, plus i want ceramic coated headers. I would rather not worry about the finish going bad on the obx headers over time.... the reason i dont want the chrome pacesetters as well

What finish on the OBX LT's? they're like 304 stainless sanitary welded. I run them on my truck... Stainless is blue'd and purple'd, its gonna happen dude...

Seriously, the coating statement is aggravating... stainless is not a coating, its a metal type, it will change colors from temperatures but will remain intact and not appear to flake.

Yea, I like the Flowmaster sound as well, but their chambered vs straight thru.

If you don't mind giving up a little low end, run em

Borla has had the best numbers at one time and good sound as well. Yea , LT's and a custom tune will wake her up noticeably. E- fans is worth about 15 hp.

The most important mod in the end will be the custom tune to make it all come together, that you most likely know.

Good Luck

if your set on the flowmaster, check out the flowmaster outlaw. be the first to run that setup on here.
also, the shop will make the H pipe when doing the exhaust.

Pat has done some quality e-fan builds for under $100

the only issue I ever heard of was one guy had some poor welds on his OBX headers so he sent 'em back and got a new set, many of us run 'em...
