Driveshaft swap

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has tried swapping in a Ford Lightning alum. drive shaft on a standard cab XLT with the 4.6l before.

Will it fit and is it worth it?

Thanks

Well I decided to take a chance and I am getting the D/S. I have some time off next month so I'm going to take a stab at this swap. If it don't work I guess I have my reason to perform the 5.4l swap

I'll post up the findings when I'm done.

I wouldn't think you will have any problems. FWIW, my XLT Sport came stock with an aluminum drive shaft and I only have the 4.2. Might need to check to make sure the balancing is OK. Could cause some serious issues if it's out of balance. Good luck with it.

#1 unless you have swapped in a 4r100 transmission you're gonna have some issues with length

#2 you probably have a 8.8 rear end...

I hope it works for ya, but I highly doubt it will

Good point(s). I meant to state that I would look for an OEM aluminum drive shaft from a truck like mine, not a lightning.

My truck has 185k miles on it and I was going to swap out the tranny and rear end anyways. If it don't bolt up to the 4.6 power train then it will sit in the corner of the garage for a little while while I get all my other parts in.

I was not planning on buying this part first but i come across a good deal and jumped on it.
