I think it would. It would bring more attention to it for sure. Good luck keeping it clean though.

i think i'm going to paint my rear drivetrain flat black instead of gloss black. i'm thinking of sanding off the surface rust and just a quick coat of flat black rust paint. sound ok?

That would work. Just make sure to scuff up the surface of it up to get that rust off. I would use rustoleum.

So theres well enough clearance to just lay under the truck and shoot the paint on the driveshaft?

guys id becarefull.

Driveshaft shops around here dont recommend painting the driveshaft unless you do it before balancing. They say paint can make it out of balance enough to tell while driving, and besides vibrations an unbalanced driveshaft can cause some problems with pinion seals and such.

Im not the only one thats been told that around here either so im gonna believe them.

I would use Por-15 (Black) . I love the stuff , it's the most durable paint i've ever seen . And you can paint right over rust .

Unbalancing is also why I didn't use primer thought it would be a little lighter. And yeah there is enough room to crawl around under there but it gets a little tight on the driver side next to the gas tank

I've wondered about that, too. In fact, that's the only reason I didn't use POR-15 on it when I did my rear axle.

I would think that the weight difference would be minute. If the paint can throw off the balance, then how about all that rust in sporatic areas?

Hmm, I guess this is one benefit to having an aluminum drive shaft. Mine still looks about the same as it did 7 years ago. I am liking the idea of painting my diff cover\axle and such. With a 6" lift I really don't have any excuse, I can almost sit Indian style under there. (exaggeration, but there is a ton of room to work).
