Squeaking bed is driving me crazy

I'm still new here so I want to say welcome to everyone and they have a great site going here. Now down to business, ever since I bought my truck almost two years ago it's had a loud squeak coming from the rear of it whenever I go over even a small bump. I finally got under there and found that the front passenger side bolt that holds the bed to the frame is loose and allowing the bed to rub on the frame and create that awful noise. I tried getting a wrench and socket on it from below to tighten it to no avail. Is there a special type of torque or allen wrench that I could use to go from the top to fix this problem and where would I find one? I either need to tighten it, or get the bed loose enough to put a rubber shim in there so it stops the sound. Thanks in advance.

Otto

I'm fairly certain you need a T-47 Torx bit to remove the bolts for the bed. I'm sure someone else will chime in to confirm. Are you absolutely sure it's not your rear leaf springs squeaking? Common issue that can be resolved with some lube. Good luck.

I'm sure it's coming fromt the bed. I had a couple friends rock the truck so it made that noise and I crawled under there and found where it was coming from. I've tried putting gel lube in there and it will lessen the sound for a while but comes back. I'm just needing a more permanant fix. Is the T-50 commen enough that I could find it at a auto parts or hardware or is there somewhere else I need to get it from?

not to hijack the thread but i have the same problem with the bolt being loose and it making that noise. so i just took it into a mechanic shop i know really well to have them fix it. well, the bolt wouldnt tighten or loosen at all for whatever reason. so he tries to remove the bolt to just put a new one in. first he used air tools, then a grinder, and finally a cutting torch. nothing worked except the top of the bolt being melted. he says theres no way he could get it off except to take it to a body shop so they could take the bed off so as to then remove the bolt. has anybody ever heard of this???

a squeaking bed used to drive my downstairs neighbor crazy in my old apartment...she used to bang on the ceiling with a broom.

Oh wait, I guess that's not what we're talking about here... LOL (sorry couldn't resist)

I would grind off the bottom side of the bolt where the speed nut is, and then the bolt should just pull out of the top of the bed.

And yes it should be a T-50, just be careful not to strip the head of the bolt out.

cab and front end, the bed just mounts straight on the frame.

you can see the speed nuts here in four places

And see the bed flush mounts to the frame
