What is this noise?

Recently, every time I hit a bump in the road, I get a sqeak/chirpping noise from the back. Can't really pin point anything since I am driving, but it is non stop. My truck has the torsions cranked, so it rides a little more bumpy anyway, so my whole ride home is full of sqeaks. One thing to note though, it rained yesterday, and my truck didn't make a peep, so I guess the water is lubbing something that is dry, just not sure what.

Please help as the noise is driving me crazy.

EXACT same problem on my 02 with torsions cranked.... it sounded like its from the back.... but have a buddy drive by while your outside next to the bump..... its actually from the front..... and its your ball joints squeakin on ya..... try sprayin them down with a little oil and it will stop for a couple days and come back... thats how i was for sure it was the ball joints.

hope that helps

Now I just gotta figure out wtf a ball joint looks like, and I'll be able to give it a try.

If it is the ball joints, does that mean they are bad for them to be sqeaking like that?

The ball joint is the rubber bushing like thing that your knuckle attaches to which is the part that your hub attaches to. It also could be a shock bushing, but it sounds like Blue has more experince with this issue.

he is right there too... could be a shock bushing... or control arm bushing... most likely, especially cuz your torsions are cranked it the ball joints.

I was thinking something with the shocks. Noise started shortly after shock change out. Figured a coincidence, but who knows. I did notice that when I was doing the shocks. Those lower bolts were pretty beat up. Threads were pretty worn, if not gone.

Guess I'll make my way to Lowes and get some penetrating oil and try the ball joints, then shocks. Then if that doesn't pin point the problem, just start spraying everything until I find the source.

I had a similar issue last year on my 04. Come to find out it was the parking break not releasing properly. It started off making sqeaking noises that evolved into a harmonic noise, then it got to the point that the truck would start shaking violently after about 5 miles of driving. Just a thought.

Almost 100% sure it is the back. Went driving through some rough terrain, and would let the front go first, then pause, then the rear, and it sqeaked everytime the rear went over.

Gonna head to lowes today. What type of lubricant exactly should I get?

Take a peek at the rear brake pads. If they aren't sitting tight while driving they rattle when you hit a bump. Got some adhesive to stop that on the wife's ride.

My guess is the little black rubber bumper that the tailgate closes against. With tailgate closed, give it a good shake and see if it squeaks. Silicone lube spray if it does.

I use this Motorcraft (dealer item) spray multi purpose grease spray containing corn oil, says it's for greasing door latches and hinges etc. Try this on the tailgate anywhere movement is, betcha that fixes it as stupid as it sounds. Probably same sound mine made so try it.

Tailgate was my first thought b/c that was the problem on my last 150. But, checked it on this one, and no squeak. Gonna start at the shock mounts, then the e brake. The fact that the noise goes away when it is raining makes me think something with the shocks. But I just recently started using the e brake alot more, and I had problems on my previous 150 with that as well, so I'll have to look into that as well.
