Help..... cant get the rotors off

Just pulled the wheels on my 02 4x4 with 50k. Are the rotors frozen or am I missing something..... never had one give me this much trouble coming off. Already tried the sledge. Before I break something, somebody please lend some advice.

Thanks

Spray wd40 all around them and let it sit for a minute then hit them with the sledge. I ended up smashing mine to bits before they eventually popped off.

i have the same issue.....wanted to replace my warped rotors...used a 5lb hammer and it wouldn't nudge. All the rust and such came off but not the rotor. I sprayed PBlaster on the inside and outside and still nothing. I got a sledge hammer and hope it pops it off. I hope I don't damage anything. Wish me luck!

use heat if you can. i assume you've pulled the caliper.

ever try hitting it toward the hub instead of away? less likely to distort the rotor that way and should break it loose.

I agree, flame wrench along the inner diameter and smack it.

I used some type of gear puller on mine as a last resort. popped right off.

I thought i was going to crack the axle becuase i hammered so long.

Good luck man. Just wait for the install quick and simple.

I tried both. I even went as far as rotating it and then hitting it again. I did removed the caliper to the side.Hopefully after sitting over night with the Pblaster it'll be easier to come off.

I might try the torch idea. I just didn't want to come to close to anything there that has grease in it and burn it up like wheel barings etc....

Either way they both have to come off tonight. One way or another.

wish me and the fellow who started this thread luck

Not that this is the end all answer, but like many, I've been in your same position.

You may already be doing this, but this is what finally worked for me...

Dont swing the hammer at it from the outside of the vehicle, meaning, if your looking at the threads and rotor and reaching down and around and hitting back towards you.

I made plenty of clearance under the truck (ramps) and got under it in kind of a funky position, but so i could get a really good solid swing from the back side of the rotor. Once I was in there it came loose in two swings as opposed to somewhere in the area of 100 or more swings from the outside position...all which felt like they were making solid contact, but obviously werent.

Hope this makes sense and works for you to ease the intense frustration.

Oh yeah...heat too if you have the means.

And a 12 of High Life bottles...of course!!!

I trust you removed the caliper mountain bracket too? The rotor won't come off without removing that as well.

I had the same trouble when I did mine a couple weeks ago. I was replacing with new, and didn't care about the old rotors. I beat them off with a sledge. The first one probably took me about 10 minutes, the second one came off in about 5. I alternated from the inside to the outside as well as around the rotor to evenly brake it loose. Seemed to work well.

Spray the rotor several times with PB Blaster. Then have at it with a hammer. Hit 10x between each lug, making sure you get between each lug. Repeat as necessary. They will pop off eventually.
