Common Repairs 97-04 Heritage

List the repairs you have made on your truck and remember to list the engine size and if its a 2wd or 4wd ect..

On my 98 2wd with a 4.6 I had the carbon build up in the throttle body and the collapsing PCV hose elbow. Also had the sticking door ajar switch that was fixed with WD40 a couple of times. Yes I did have the notorious door crack!

My current 03 4wd with a 5.4 is starting to experience noticeable lower ball joint wear at just 60k miles. The Cops are giving me a faint miss that I'm going to replace with the plugs in a couple of weeks.

I've only had to have a few common repairs on my 02' 4.2L V6. All of these I researched on this site which helped me in quickly diagnosing and resolving the problem. These all happened around 90K miles, too. I think the error code for the vacuum leak was P0174.

Hesitation and popping noise while accelerating - Dealership replaced coil pack, plugs, wires etc. Went a head and did the 100K mile service at this point.

Vacuum leak issue and CEL - Replaced upper and lower intake gaskets, PCV hose and plenum isolator bolts

Loud Whining noise coming from front end - Drivers side front wheel bearing was bad. Replaced front passenger side as well.

Luckily for me, that's all the issues I've had with my truck.

I've had a few coil packs replaced. Just before my 60k mile extended warranty ran out Ford replaced all 4 of my ball joints and my idler arm.

On my last truck (98 4x4 4.6 manual) I had to replace the alternator. I ended up buying a refurb from Autozone and worked perfectly.

2002 5.4L 4x4

Since buying her, I've replaced her radiator, water pump, various hoses, air filter, tailights, the front bumper guard, fan, alternator (with a '94 Thunderbird's, but thats another story), and am now getting ready to replace the water pump for a second time, as well as the fan clutch. Also, apparently a bolt has magically disappeared from the exhaust manifold, so that's gotta get replaced.

There are a few other things that need to get fixed, such as the electronic side view mirrors (they won't go up or out), the cab exterior light. I also have a hell of a time getting the damn tail gate to release...

I have an 00 4x4 reg cab, see sig, with 209 000 km's and here's the fixes so far, not many really.

Tie-rods: common to break, replaced with greaseable ones (Moog)
Ball joints, same common failures.
Sway bar ends
COP's, 1 went belly up, figured replace all.
A/c compressor
Radiator, on my third
O/D quit, so a tranny rebuild was the plan to fix and prevent future problems as well.
E-brakes are bad for seizing, so I've had to maintain every so often.

That's about it, a bit of rust at the driver's door bottom but it's kept at bay. Pretty much these things are common to 97-03's, never (knock on wood) have had a single issue with a plug though.

I have an incessant whine with my power steering... Do you know if tie rods like these actually prevent strain on the steering box? Out of all the problems I've had with my rig, this problem has been the same with all my Ford rigs, so it would be cool if it could be fixed with upgrading the tie rods.
