Modded F-150 Proves the Right ‘Shoes’ Make All the Difference

A little bit of cash and a few spare minutes is all it takes to completely transform the look of your F-150.

The most popular aftermarket modification for cars and trucks is, without a doubt, the wheel and tire swap. And the reasoning behind this popularity is quite simple, too. No change, outside of a full-on paint job, makes as large or immediate of a visual impact. And unlike paint, it’s a job that anyone can do in mere minutes. Simply jack your F-150 up one corner at a time, slap ’em on, and boom, instant custom.

Not only that, but your choice of “shoes” goes a long way in defining what your truck represents. Will you go with a meaty set of off-road tires or some low-profile rubber? Are you a fan of modern wheels or more understated traditional ones? Do you fancy flashy, huge chrome spinners or small, painted steelies? The choices are quite literally endless.

A simple wheel and tire swap took a truck that blends in with millions of others and transformed it into a true one-of-a-kind ride.

We stumbled upon a nice example of this theory recently while surfing Reddit. The late model F-150 pictured here, owned by Reddit poster SenatorPOPS, has been treated to a new set of shoes, and it totally changes the look of the truck.

In place of what were most likely chrome 17s lie four black Method Mesh wheels of the same size. Wrapped around the tough-looking rims is a set of sporty and super-tough 285/70R17 Nitto G2 tires with a rather aggressive tread pattern.

“The level is 2.5,” says SenatorPOPS about the extreme precision and strategic planning that went into every detail of his F-150’s mighty wheels and tires. “Was going to go with the 2″, but glad I went 2.5, because now it’s dead level.”

The result? A truck that looks equally at home on the street or the dirt. A simple wheel and tire swap took a truck that blends in with millions of others and transformed it into a true one-of-a-kind ride. And that, friends, is exactly why wheel and tire swaps remain so popular.

Of course, like on the Reddit thread, it’s also cool to hear constantly hear folks exclaiming, “Holy sh-t, man, nice truck!”
