17" wheels - is spare s'posed to be17"?
I need a spare for my '97 F150 4x4 Off Road. I have 17" aluminum wheels. Did this truck come with a steel or aluminum full size spare, a donut, a 16" wheel/larger tire combo, or something else? None of the salvage yards in the local area know.
Also, if you have the right spare for sale, I am interested in buying it.

If your tires are 265/70R17 you do not neccessarily need a 17" spare rim. You could get a 16" rim and put a 265/75R16 tire on it, they are identical in width and diameter. All that really matters is that the spare is the same diameter as your other tires.
You could also buy a matching OEM wheel/rim, then when you buy new tires get 5 and have a matching spare. Do a 5 tire rotation with the spare, then your spare will always match diameter with what is on the truck.

the easiest way to tell if a vehicle has a full size spare is whether it is 4x4 or not. ALL 4x4 vehicles must have a full size spare because if it has a tire that is a little smaller it screws a lot of things up. I have read this in various places and if you look at any 4x4 it proves it. Also I dont think I have seen a fullsize truck 4x4 or otherwise without a fullsize spare.
I too am looking BTW, just got my new 17"s on and have no spare, yikes! Although I might have a 16" that works now that i think about it.
