Wheel studs!! ?

Just got back from an hour and a half drive. Just bought a set of 17" rims and tires. Awesome price, Steel wheels with a chrome overlay and chrome center caps.

Pulled the truck in the garage, took off the center cap to start the exchange of tires and wheels.

I found my Truck has SEVEN STUDS not six or eight !!!! WTF?

I have never heard of 7 stud wheels !!! When did this start?

you must have a 7700 truck (i think that's what the 7 lugs came on). unfortunately there are very few options for aftermarket wheels for the 7 lug guys.

I know this isn't what you want to hear; but you need to check, and double check your bolt pattern before buying wheels.

yeah, don't mean to sound like a jerk, but you didn't think to check how many lugs your truck had before you bought wheels?

Bummer on the wheels. Hopefully you can get your money back.

Why would anyone think they needed to see how many lugs their F150 has? Most aren't even aware that Ford offers a HD payload package on our trucks and even fewer know about these odd hubs. And Ford designed the center caps on the stock wheels to that they don't show the lugs, like they did on the heritage body style.

Hope you can get your money back.

The money is not an issue in this case as I can resell them easily for double.

For all the years I have seen trucks 1/2 tons came with 6 lugs and H-D style came with 8 studs. I have never heard of 7 so I never gave it a thought.

What is a "7700" truck?

97-03 trucks came with 5 lugs. In 04 they changed to 6 lug. F250 and up came with 8 lugs. There were some f150s that had 7 lugs these were the 7700 trucks if I remember correctly. It was a package you could buy for the f150 basically a heavy duty half ton with (I think) a 7700 gvw rating.

I will look on the door tag and confirm the Gross weight.

This truck also has day time running lights. Is that odd or common in the Ford line up?

It's common in many northern states because of those Canadians.

Yep, DRLs are required in Canada. I had an older GMC from Canada, and I found a fuse for the DRLs that I removed. Not sure on the f150's but it's worth checking out. It will be listed in your owners manual.

The tag on the door states "GVWR 8200lbs". Is this something like the "7700 Truck" sfam198 referred to?

The tire sticker states 50 lbs in front tires and 60 lbs of air in the rear. Sounds like a lot of air and my tire gauge only goes to 50lbs.

That's most likely because with the heavy payload package, the truck was meant to run load range D or E tires, which you can run at those higher air pressures.

From my experiences at work, load range E tires can run up to 80psi cold in them. I see a lot of Super Duty trucks come in with load range E tires on them, same with the big E250/350 vans from Ford that contractors and folks of the sort use.

My guess, is with those air pressure recommendations for the tires, they're probably calling for load range D tires on the truck.

I've personally never seen one of hte 7 lug heavy duty F150's in person, but did see that the package was offered when I was checking on wheels on TireRack.

the 04+ went to the 8200lb package to replace the old 7700 package, basically an upgrade...they have heavier T bars and 1 extra spring in back, they are real common the 7 lug trucks, probably 20 of them in my town of 4k people. same everything in the front except for the wheelbearing/hub assembly and rear has a semi floating 10.25 differential.

What are "T bars"? I have "A arms" and coil spring w/ struts in front and leaf springs in the rear.
