Question 305/65-17 BFG's on stock 7.5 x 17 wheels, anyone running these, pictures?

Can someone be so kind to show me a picture of 305/65-17's on stock 7.5" rims? Are you happy with that size, or do you wish you went to 285's?

I really want to get the biggest tire on my truck without getting new wheels or a lift. I know 285's will fit fine, but since this is a big long term investment, I want to do the best I can the first time. I use my 2000 flareside 4x4 for hunting, and pulling my boat. I am in need of tires pretty bad. We have a discount tire shop close by, so that is where I am planning to purchase them. THANK GUYS!

Im running the 285/70/17's and I wish I would have gone up to the next size. When I got the 285's, I didnt do my homework and I thought the next size up in the BFG AT KO's were the 315/70/17. I found out later that the 305/65/17's (33 x 12.5) would have fit fine. I'd go with the 305's if I were you.

Thanks for the reply! I am a little concerned that the stock 7.5" rim would be pushing it. It is not list for the 305's as a correct rim width.

Are you not happy with the way the 285's look? Do you have a picture of them?

Its not that Im not happy with my tires. These tires are the best tires you can buy in my opinion. I think they are some of the best looking tires you can put on a vehicle and their performance is excellent, especially in snow. I just wanted the widest tired i could get with out having any modifications such as lifts. Dont get me wrong the 285's still look awsome and are alot bigger than the stock tires. The only real difference between the two sizes is the 305's are around eight-tenths of and inch wider than the 285's. They're both right at the same height (32.7").

Im not absolutley certain that you wont have a problem if you mount the 305's on the stock rim but I've seen alot of people with 305's on their stock rims with out any problems. I think you'd be fine but I would ask Wandell or any of the other senior members if there would be a problem or just search in the forums. Hope this helps.

Lots of people on this forum are running tires that are wider than the recommended rim width for their wheels. And I have never seen a single post from anyone that said they had a problem because they put them on. But that being said, I would never do it. I think the tire manufacturers put those specs on there for a reason and it isn't worth it to me to get an extra 8/10 of an inch of tire width and risk a potential problem when I am putting stress on the tires in an emergency situation (ie trying to avoid something and changing direction quickly). It is probably a very small risk, but when I am traveling with my three kids in the truck, it is not a risk I am willing to take.

Actually the 305 are 33.6" tall which is basically a 34, I have them on my stock 18" rims and have zero problem, they ride great, and I look foward to other tire companies making this size because I would love to get a MT in this size. They say the rim is to thin, but i ran 285/75/16 goodyear mtr's on my old silverado and they said the rim was to thin but I ran them anyway and had 25,000 miles on them when I sold my truck and I know I could have got 15,000 more miles out of them. So I did not hesitate to put the 305's on, I have had them for a month ride great, hope this helps.

305's on an 18" rim would be 34" tall. But on a 17" rim, like Hunt&fish is asking about, 305/65/17's come out to be 33's. Im the same way as smitty though. I dont see a real problem mounting them on the stock rim but every one to their own opinions I guess.... I'd do it.
