2 or 4 Wheel ABS

How do I figure out if I have 2 or 4 wheel ABS? I got the truck used and the manual does not say anything about it. It's a 2001 F150 XLT 2WD Ext Cab 4.2L V6. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

If you have drums in the rear you dont have 4 wheel ABS

at any rate, even if you did have discs in the rear, the rear axle is "one channel" so its still only a three channel system instead of four channel.

I can explain the whole channel things when im less intoxicated.

Just inspect your FRONT wheel spindles for any electrical wiring. If any is found, you have 4WABS. If there is no wiring for a sensor on the spindles, you have RABS.

thanks guys. 4-wheel disc brakes. inspected the front wheel and there is a wire going to the spindle from the engine compartment. so the rear abs is standard? so i guess i have 4W ABS. Does this make a difference in replacing rotors at all 4 wheels? different part#? thanks again.

Your system will work MUCH like this, but you won't have this test connector, or be able to pull the codes this way.

I think a 2WD ABS rotor will be different from non-ABS, but the parts store guy will be able to tell you for sure.

My 97 had drums in the rear and 4wheel abs. Did that change in later years?

The pre-'97 4WABS & RABS systems both had rear drums, but I'm not familiar with '97-up.
