265/70/17 Revos on 04/05 F150...pics inside

Well after some issues of abnormal wear on my tiny 235/70/17 Hangooks, I finally decided on some 265/70/17 Revos...and man do they look sick!

The price was the only thing holding me back, but I have heard nothing but good things out of these tires. I went to the local Firestone dealer and asked if they would price match, he said sure. I showed him the TireRack price of $137(but didnt show him the shipping charges of $84). He said that was pretty low, and after some persuasion he gave me the price of $137 per tire! He originally was asking $180 per tire. I thought that was a damn good deal, then $10 for mount/balance, kept my old tires just in case and I was out the door. These Revos are extremely quiet and smooth at high speeds and seem to perform great. My truck would easily over power my old tires when braking at high speeds and you could feel the flex of the tires, anyone who has seen how thin the sidewalls really are knows what Im talking about.

Anyway, 265/70/17 fills the wheel wells great, and looks really good imho. Let me know what ya'll think. Later

Looks awesome! I take it that the tires fit well enough top not rub? Does it affect mileage/speedo?

I have an '05 (just bought it two weeks ago) and I like the thought of some bigger rubbers under there.

They fit just perfect, the stock tires just left too much room in the wheel well for me. The 265/70 tire is 31.6inches in diameter whereas the 235/70/17 and 255/65/17 tires are 30inches in diameter. This causes the speedo to read 5% slower than you are really going, so for instance if the speedo is reading 60mph you are really going 63mph. Its not that big of a deal, but eventually I will have a tuner so you can calibrate for the correct rev/mile, stock is 673revs/mile and these are 638rev/mile. But 5% isnt enough to matter. As far as power, truck feels the same off the line, but I really dont dog it that much. RPM's at high speeds are slightly lowered due to the larger diameter tires, so you have the potential to save in gas mileage due to lowered rpms. Anyway, I just got through driving on them both highway and dirt and love them!

Put the same size Mich on mine with no problems. Same speedo error. About 3 mph.

Good choice. I am planning on getting the same tire. Did you get the LT265 or the P265? The LT265 has a load rating of E. I was wondering if they affect your factory smooth ride at all.

I went with the Suv p rated tire. Much smoother on the ride, and better handling. Of course I don't haul heavy loads or pull a heavy trailer. I hade the Lt's on my 97 SC. The guy that bought it in 00 probably has the same tires on it. Those things last forever, but ride rougher.

Silverbullet, I am planning on getting the same tire. Did you get the LT265 Revo or the P265 Revo? The LT265 Revo has a load rating of E. I was wondering if they affected your factory smooth ride at all.

I have the P265 Revo, which Im sure rides better than the harder LT E rated. I dont need an E rated tire, but I know mine ride pretty smooth, suprised me honestly.

Well, a 5% error isn't that bad at all. I checked my speedo with the OEM tires using my GPS and the speedo is about 1-3% fast, I was running an indicated 70 on the speedo and only turning 68.6 on the GPS. So 5% would be a good correction...

Programming computer

Can the truck computer be reprogrammed to make the speed read right? I have an 05 F-150 XLT Extended cab, with same crappy Hancook tires. I was thinking of Michelin LTX AS 265/70/17, or MS. The dealership said the speedo could be reprogrammed, but didn't know if it would work up to a 265 tire. Any ideas on this?

You can buy an aftermarket tuner to recalibrate the computer to compensate for the larger tires. I plan on an XcaII later down the road.

I bought an '05 F150 4x4 in August (to replace the '95 4x2 F150 I have had since Dec 94 and have 299,000+ miles on it) and it came with 235/75/17 Hankooks - already blew one tire (a rock cut right throw the tread). I have no faith in these tires. However, the Ford dealer and one tire place I went to said I couldn't put a bigger tire on the truck. My only choices were the 235/75/17 Hankooks or I could go to a 255/70/17 or 245/65/17. I want a slightly taller tire to fill all the empty space in the wheel well. Am I out of luck?

The new guy
