17x9 wheels and tire size

Will a 17x9" wheel fit on a 2005 f150 4x4 with no lift. found some pro comp that would look killer the bolt pattern is good backspacing is 4.75" What size tire should I go with? Lifting is not a option. will a 285 look too tight or would a 275 and stay with a 17x8. Dont like the look of a rim sticking out past the tire. Thanks for the help, I know I have asked a lot of questions, just dont want to buy the wrong stuff

a 17x9 will fit, its an option on the trucks so there's no reason it wouldnt.

285s (or some equivalent of a 33" diameter tire) are about the biggest you can fit without leveling the truck or lifting.

If you plan NOT to lift/level your truck and don't like a wheel wider than a tire, rock the 8" wheel . Throw on some LT285/70R17's It'll be perfect. A 285 will work on a 9" but the tire will be a bit on the narrow side . I'll be getting 285s within the month and will be using my stock 17X7.5. BTW, the rim width range on a BFG A/T LT285/70R17 is 7.5 - 9.0 (similar with other mfg). Based on my experience in tires and your taste, the 285 on a 17X8 will be perfect.

That wheel will stick out about 2 1/2 inches farther than the stock 17x7.5's.

The Toyos are an excellent tire. I personally think the Pro Comps are an average tire. Not a bad choice by any means.

Why is it when you got to a bigger wheel the wheels get wider? What would this do with tire sizes?

17x8 = 285/70/17

18x9 = ???/??/??

That's a good question. I guess only the tire manufacturers know. As far as 18's, BFG makes a 285/65-18(33x11.50), then you have several companies making 325/60-18's (33x13.00). I don't know why no one makes a 33x12.50-18.

I know you were thinking of going a differant direction than bfg's but bfg makes a 33 inch at ko that fits the 18 inch rim and is about the same width as the 285/70/17's. I do believe it is a 285/65/18. I too was thinking of going a differant direction than the bfg's next time arround. I was thinking of the titto's then I keep hearing they wear down fast. then I hear the toyos wear longer. then I go to there web sites and see they have the same wear rating. I like the looks of the nitto's better than the toyo's but then again I like the look of the bfg's too. I have heard mixed reviews of the bfg's but I like them. they seem to wear about average for a at tire for me. so all in all I haven't decided which direction I will go. I do know the bfg's are rated better in the snow and ice than the other two so I might just end up going back to the bfg's. that and I am thinking of going to a 18 inch rim and there 18 inch tire is not so darn wide.
