HEavier Duty Brakes

Does anyone know of an upgrade to the 98 F-150/Expedition brakes? With larger tires and a heavier 4x4, bigger brakes would be a good idea, but I don't know if this is doable. Thanks

Absolutely. One can buy aftermarket rotors and pads that increase performance over OEM. One can also go “big” with bigger brakes for even better performance. Bigger brakes can get pretty pricey, but if money is no object…

As to your specific vehicle, you should do some internet searches and read some tech articles to determine what you can afford and what you want.

Here are a couple of places to start.

Silver2000, Thanks for the links. I am interested in bigger brakes. I have Powerslots with Hawk Pads and this helps, but I want to look into getting bigger brakes. Any direction you could give me would be great. Thanks.

The Truck Performance link above has some big brake kits. Here are a couple of others.

http://www.precisionbrakescompany.com/

http://www.stoptech.com/

A lot of those “big brake” kits go for 3K or better. I think one generally has to have larger wheels, 17” or maybe larger. I think.

Good luck, Schreiberclan. If you buy a kit and install it, take pictures and show us how it goes.

The Stainless Steel company's brakes are relatively cheaper than some, at $1,900 in believe.

Wilwood also makes larger front brakes.

A while back I saw a company that had a $700 front brake kit for our trucks. It consisted of a larger single-piston sliding caliper (factory-style, not as nice as the multi-piston fixed calipers in the brakes noted above) as well as a slightly larger rotor that used the factory mounting points.

I'll keep trying to find the company; I lost the info about it But I had not read any reviews about it so I don't know how much of an improvement they offered.

Silver2000 & Jordan not Mike, Thanks for all of your help. So far I've found front brake kits from a couple different folks:
Stillen.com - AP Racing Big Brake System @ $2995 with a 6 piston caliper and 13.5" rotors; a Brembo GT system @ $3295 ($3159 from Tirerack) with a 4 piston caliper; from ssbrakes.com - Force 10 4-piston aluminum system @ $1790 with 14" rotors; and from stoptech.com - Big Brake kit @ $2495 with a 4-piston caliper and 14" rotors. I was hoping to just need upgraded calipers since my rotors are new Powerslots with Hawk pads, but it looks like they all have larger diameter rotors. My biggest concern is going to the 38 inch tires from my current 36 inch Parnelli Jones dirt Grips. The brakes are working pretty hard to stop this big beast with 36s, so I'm a little concerned about the stopping power with 38s. I'll keep you posted on what I figure out. Thanks again for all of your help.
