2006 F150 4.6 swap for 2010 Crown Vic 4.6?
I would like some clarification about the following swap: Would I be able to swap a 2010 crown vic engine (4.6l, VIN V, 8th digit, flex fuel, with Police equip pkg) into my 2006 f150 (4.6 VIN W)?
I did a search on the forum and found plenty of info about swaps of earlier model crown vic motors into earlier f150s but didn't come up with any info about these later model engine swaps.
If I'm not mistaken, I can use the intake manifold and throttle body, oil pan, oil pickup, dipstick, front cover, heads, exhaust manifolds (if I'm missing anything else) off my engine on the crown vic engine to make the swap possible?
If one or more of the resident 4.6 experts (dynotech, jbrew, anybody else who knows these motors) would chime in on this swap it would be much appreciated!

Absolutely swappable. The long-block is basically what you'd be swapping. In addition to what you listed, swap the intake manifold, water pump, and flywheel. Possibly the valve covers too. The truck water pumps look similar, but the trucks use a longer shaft. I made that mistake once and didn't realize it until I tried to install the water pump pulley.

I also have found another option to buy a motor out of a 2010 F150 4.6L, (VIN W 8th digit, 2V) for about $300 more than the crown vic motor. Both motors have less than 50k miles on them.
If i go with this option, will I still need to swap over any of the above mentioned parts to make the conversion work? It seems like it may be worth it to go with the truck motor for the $300 extra if less part swapping off of my 190k motor is needed.

You'd still need to swap most of components listed except for the flywheel, and possibly the timing cover and water pump.
Exhaust manifolds changed in 2009, intake, valve covers, and timing cover changed in 2007. Not sure what changed on the timing cover, but it may work either way. The 2010 had electric fans, but I think they still had the threads on the water pump for a fan clutch.
Basically in 2007 the 4.6L became more like the Crown Vic variant with the smaller intake. So it's a matter of choice, but I see no benefit spending extra for the F-150. I'd take the extra $300 and spend it elsewhere. Like trans fluid since the engine will be out and you can easily drain the torque converter. Maybe a new oil pump pickup if yours is restricted at all. Know what I mean?

The intake will bolt up fine exactly the same. The oil pan changed in 2009, though I don't know how it changed exactly without having the two next to each other for comparison. I suspect it's compatible either way. Just use the pickup tube that goes with the oil pan. Ideally, use the one from your old engine. Oil pans don't really go bad.

Following up on this thread. I ended up going with a 4.6 out of a 2010 f150 with 26k miles. Paid $1000. I ended up needing to swap my old valve covers, intake manifold, throttle body, wire harness, oil filter adapter, exhaust manifolds, cam position sensor, egr. I forgot to swap out the oil dipstick which meant that I had to get a different bracket to mount the power steering reservoir in order to be able to pull the dipstick in and out. I installed new motor and transmission mounts while everything was out. Also installed new water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, transmission fluid and filter.
Labeling the bolts into sandwich bags and labeling the wiring harness clips with masking tape was very helpful getting it all back together. I bought a Milwaukee electric ratchet for this project to help speed up some the wrenching. I think it is my new favorite tool even more than my electric or air impact wrenches.
Anyway thanks to those that answered my questions. Truck is running like it should again.

there are cam phaser locks that can be purchased to lock it either at the retarded, advanced, or a 10 degree position to disable the VCT; all it needs is a tune. I’m just wondering if I’d need the harness and the computer to go with it
