Unhappy I'm Lost!

Hey guys I'm a little confused about a noise my truck has been making for a while now. It didn't really bother me before because it wasn't that bad but it is now getting progressively worse. The noise is kinda hard to describe so bare with me. It sounds likes its coming from the right side of my motor or somewhere in the powertrain. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak somewhere but i can't tell for sure. Kind of a clicking noise but it only makes the noise when accelerating, so when I'm driving and let off the gas it doesn't make the noise until i accelerate again. I really have no idea on what the noise is but im going to take my truck to a shop tomorrow or next week to get an opinion. Anyways if you guys have any idea on what this noise might be any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
-Mike!
Oh and my truck is a 2005 5.4 with almost 50,000 miles on it. My current mods are CAI, ROR exhaust, 6inch lift. 4.56 gears, 35' toyos. Gryphon.

is there a certain rpm that it starts making the noise at? what kind of oil and filter do you use? maybe lash adjuster isnt getting enough oil pressure or possible cam phaser noise.

More then likely, it's a busted exhaust manifold bolt... I'm not sure this occurs on the 04+ models, but from 97-03, it's rather common for a bolt to break off...

Poke your head in each front wheel well and with a flashlight, look at each bolt on the manifolds on each side... It'll more then likely be one of the rear cylinders that has snapped off.....

Yep, sounds like an exhaust leak. Also, make sure one of the sparkplugs is not backing out.

It happens in every rpm range so its pretty much a constant noise. But the lower rpm the less noise and the higher the rpm the more noise. Kinda weird.

Yeah we wish they came out that easy.

I agree, it does sound like an exhaust leak at the manifold.

I had the same thing happen on my 99 4.6. Ended up being a crack in the drivers side exhaust manifold. I got a new one online somewhere for almost half the cost of a parts store. I took it to a shop because I was sure the studs would snap off before the nuts came off. He took his time and got them all off. The only thing he couldn't get off was the O2 sensor so I had to buy a new one.
I then proceded to hit a tree a couple months later and sold the truck.

look under the hood with the engine running and rev the engine to see if you can find out where exactly the noise is coming from.

Did you find any busted exhaust manifold studs?
