1985 f250 351W fuel injected?

Ok I found a 351W (5.8L) that is Fuel Injected. I have not seen it but the guy says it is from a 1985 F250. All the research I have done says the 351W did not get fuel injection till 1988. Was this an option in 1985? If so and MPI did not come out to 1988ish what type of fuel injection is the 1985. Also is the 1985 351W any good?

The 351 is a great motor. As for the fuel injection question, it could be a transplant, or, that mod could have been added. Could be just a throttle body injector, instead of a multi port... Mileage would be my only concern...

No fuel injection in 1985 - only 2 or 4 barrel carbs. They never used TBI - they switched to MFI in 1988.

OK the story is the guy bought from another guy. The top end caught on fire. Can a fuel injected top end catch of fire? Also any way to tell what it came from for sure. Can not find anything on a 1985 Fuel injected but with it cathing on fire on top makes it sound like its not FI. Does it have a Vin number on the engine and how do I disifer it. I guess if it looks like a normal 5.8L I will get it. My engine is almost done.

The engine casting number is stamped on the block down by the starter. If it's an 85, it should start with E5 - standard Ford year series codings.

Well now I am even more confused. Ok I looked at one 351W EFI at a Junkyard and it had 5.8L Fuel Injected printed in big letters on the intake. They want $600 for it and they say its out of a 1992 F150. I looked at the one I started this thread about today. Can not tell what it is. It is fuel injected but the intake only says fuel injected. No indecation on the whole engine if it is a 302 or 351. Not sure which one to go with. Any help would be apprciated.

Numbers that I could get:
Timing Chain Cover
RF F6TE 6059 JB

Distributor
E4ZE 12131 AA

Transmission AODE
E7TP-7006-CA

Driverside Exhaust Manifold
RF-F4Te-9431-DB

Well, sounding of the shady setoff with the first engine, I would have a hard time trusting that person selling it. He wasn't expecting you to research on the FI at all. Being that they had to add the FI to the 85 model, and the fire issues... I think you know where I'm going here.

The 92 sounds like a better solution. Just my opinion...

I had an 86 F250 351w that was still carburated and I dont think the 351w was avalinle until later although you could get EFI on 302's in 85 in F150's and broncos. Dont know if 302's came on f250's. Doubt it.

My Dad bought a 1989 Bronco brand spanking new, only because it had the "new" multi port fuel injection setup on it.... It was only a 5.0, but I'm pretty sure the 5.8's had them too, but not in 1985....

I had a 1986 Mustang GT that was the first year of MFI on it... 1985 GT's had a 4bbl.... I'd think they would be the MFI on the Mustangs before the trucks??

I know for a fact if came on F150's and Bronco's in 85-86. I know where there are 2 at my friends house a couple block away. 85 bronco and an 86 F-150. I towed the Bronco home last fall when the engine blew..

We have an 86 F250 in the arsenal now - This 86 351 has an Edelbrock Carb. Not sure if that's stock? Picked the truck up at an auction. It belonged to the fire dept and has 61,000 miles

Can you find the block casting number? I posted where to find it already.

The engine was so nastey that I could not find any numbers. We used a scraper and every thing. We decided to just patch my I6 engine and try to limp it along until I can find a 90-96 351W for a good deal.
