What sensor is this?

I have 98, 4.6l SC, the sensor is right next to the A/C compressor, attached to a piece of metal attached to the block. What is that for and can it be moved slightly towards the back of the engine. I replaced the compressor with an idler wheel and it just touches it. thanks.

Cool

HI!... A bit off topic but from what I understand you eliminated your A/C compressor, right?

If so you didn't need a idler for the deletion. You just use a shorter belt and a non A/C belt tensioner which pulls the belt in the opposite direction. Can you post a pic of the sensor your talking about?

Here's my A/C delete :

That would have to be what the OP is talking about. Huh - I thought they were well behind the pulley myself, I guess not.

thanks yes that is what it is.

It was so close to the compressor I thought it was the elec. to the compressor and took it off. The engine wouldn't start, I hooked it back up. But on the idler pulley it touches. I was wondering if it could be twisted back a bit.

What I ended up doing was taking sandpaper and holding it up, I only needed about a credit card with to make the clearance.

thanks for the help.

neal I will try to get a pic. This route was ok, used the same belt, bolt pattern was the same as compressor, had to buy shorter bolts. Your engine looks sweet! If I end up replacing belt I might go the route you took. thanks for the help.
