Quit your whining! Some people get 12-14 at best. If you were getting 18-20 then you'd be still be wanting more mileage. If you want better mileage get a honda civic. These trucks were made to work and use gasoline. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
On a side note, 16-20 is EXCELLENT mileage for a 300 inline 6 as well as any F150 of any year. No one has ever gotten 25+ mpg with these trucks so don't beat yourself to death over it. Spend your money on a beater car for commuting.

Really, that is great mileage. My 351 gets around 10-11, almost all around-town driving. Highway, I can get 15 if I keep the speed under 100 Set the cruise at 70, get 15 pretty consistently.
But if you want to be sure, check the air filter, replace if necessary, same for the fuel, but you can't really check that, so replace if you haven't done so already.
A TB cleaning job is a little intensive but can yield good results in performance.
But really, if you want great mileage go get a 4-banger import (or a 3-banger Geo lol). These trucks were made for work, not cruisin' the interstates. People don't buy Civics to haul boats, people don't buy trucks to commute. But 16mpg is very good, your motor is in good shape.

Everything as far as I know is OEM.(Odometer mileage matched up with google maps distances when I used the maps)
And sorry, I didn't realize that's the higher-end on gas mileage.
I'm only just starting to get into mechanical things, rather than computers(Had this truck just over a year now. My dad's old '90 F-150 with a 302 V8 got around 10, but then again he never did any maintenance, unless it stopped working )
But I figured that things might not be..In best conditions, about the only thing that the owner had done was oil changes and a few transmission fluid changes, everything else was neglected.

Is you truck 2 or 4wd? Long or short bed? Auto on manual? Regular cab or extended cab?
I had a 95 with the 4.9 and a 5 speed. It was a regular cab with a short bed, 2wd and a 2.73 rear end. I was able to get around 23 to 24 mpg sometimes. If I ever come across one just like it for sale, I'll probably buy it if I have the money.

No engine loves to lug. If anything can take it, it'd be something like the Cat diesel in the F650s or something like that. Peak powerband, FTW.
Granted the 4.9L doesn't exactly rev all that well, or at least it doesn't seem to do all that much when it does rev, but that can be attributed to that 8.5ish compression ratio and lousy head/intake manifold flow. It's a bas engine design from the automotive smog era/stone age, so I'm not expecting much from it.
I almost guarantee that OP gets better MPGs with 3.55s or 3.73s. Get the engine up to peak revs quickly and slap it into 5th ASAP.
Then again, I touch ~20 MPGs with a 4.2L v6, so I wouldn't complain about that on a 300 cube monster myself...

The code was 19, I looked up and if I'm reading it right, means it is not limited slip and has a 3.55 ratio?
(Actually..at one point my truck started flipping out and didn't want to run when I was driving home, as if it had no gas.
I smelt something burning when I checked under the hood though I didn't see anything that could have.
After driving for a good 4 hours straight on the 695 beltway, the trans fluid was Cold.
I had no idea of what to do so I pulled over, after 5 minutes I tried starting it up again, ran fine, did it once or twice more on the way home but the waiting fixed it.
It does have two tanks that I swap between every fill-up. The 'Check Engine' light was on too.)
