Radiator Leaking due to Troyer Fans

Well, that says it all. One of the long pin things that go through the fins looks like it finally rubed a hole in the radiator tube and started a pretty good, undriveable leak. And I don't like the idea of pouring in a bottle of "stop leak". So the radiator is out and off to a shop I guess and try and weld it up. Heck, may even try throwing some JBWeld on it if it's too expensive. Wonder how long it will be before the next one rubs through???????????????????? The thing that sucks is I figure I need to remove both fans to get it fixed and I don't have any pins to put the fans back on afterwards. Can you buy those anywhere????

You can buy those plastic type pins as you describe at most parts stores. I have an extra set. I have 2 efans on my race car and no issues with rub through.

The ones that come with the Troyer fans are not plastic...they're brass from the looks of it.

Cool

HI!... The DERALE fans come with long copper rods to mount the fans. Hate to say it but I'm surprised you used the copper rods. It's been discussed on here for about 8 years to NOT run the copper rods that come with the DERALE fans. They WILL eventually wear holes in the rad tubes. I found out this the hard way twice, and had to replace two rads at almost $500(CAN) each. DERALE sells the plastic rods and foam washers to prevent this. Why DERALE doesn't include these with their kits, I don't know.

In the mean time, dump a bottle of "bar's stop leak". The kind in the GRAY bottle, you can get at truck stops. It is the best stuff in the world. It WILL stop your leak until you can get a new radiator. I've never seen it not work. Except on really big holes. It looks like runny dookey, but it works awesome.

NEVER mount fans in that manner regardless of who you get them from or what ties you use..
You never see the factory do it so why would you ask for self made problems.

This is one of the reasons I went with the FAL kit instead of the Troyer kit. Anything mounted through the radiator on those pins will wiggle, and wiggling leads to rubbing through.

HI!... It's not really the fact that they wiggle through. Since I switched to the plastic rods, I have had *ZERO* problems. The rad shows NO WEAR at all where the plastic rods went through. The key is the foam pads. That act like a spring and keep tension on the rods/fans at all times. Most people don;t pull the rods tight enough causing them to wiggle around and cause damage. The problem with the copper rods is electrolysis, plus not tightening them up enough. I agree that a outside mount for the fans is better but the plastic rod method works and works well if it is done properly.

I used these brackets, with some modification, on top and the plastic zips on the bottom. No stress on the radiator tubes at all, as all of the weight is born by the top rail of the radiator. Got them from Summit.
I did use the brass rods for about a year without any problems.
