'02 F-150: Engine squeak
2002 F-150, 4.2L v6, 75k miles, 5 speed manual tranny.
There's a mysterious squeaking noise that comes from under the hood. It almost sounds like rubbing fingers against a clean window. It squeaks at roughly the same speed of the pulleys for the serpentine belt.
Also, after I shut off the engine, the squeaking is still there for a few seconds before it dies out, but it does not "chirp" like it does when the engine's on. Rather, it is a long squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak until it eventually fades out.
Anybody know what that might be? Any suggestions?

It's your "Vacuum Regulater"(EVR) - After you shut down , pop your hood and wrap your hand around it before the noise dies out completely. It will vibrate or rattle in your hand until the noise goes away .
It's not harming anything really - it's just releasing pressure like it's designed to do , but you can replace it to get rid of the noise.
Good luck

I'd look at the idler and guide pulleys for the serpentine belt , change them both if your doing 1 and the belt .
