I just went with the 0W30 Amsoil in my new Engine, well new to me. 1000 mile 2004 4.6L.

I doubt Amsoil would stear you wrong.

I pray not as I've too much invested in this new engine.

Doug

I also went with the Amsoil Duel Remote ByPass Filter System and PreOiler, time will tell if this investment pays off.

"0" is too lite as you will have to add a qt. every now and then...if you have the pre-oiler a great investment "if" you want to keep the truck a long time..with the pre-oiler a nice 10w-30 will do unless your in a severe area of cold weather....a engine oil heater is also nice I have seen them run on 1 of those tiny solar panels for cars and have no battery drain.....the dual filter it a bit over killer I do use them on all my race cars..which can lower oil psi about 5 psi and can slow initial oil flow but that's moot with the pre-oiler..just using the pre-oiler you have atleast doubled the life of the engine....

You've got that much money invested in something you want to keep a long time, I'd suggest you get that crap out of your motor and put some real oil in it.

I've got a customer pushing 500K miles on a stock 97 Yukon, with dino oil changes every 3000 miles. Thats longetevity. 0-30 Amsoil isn't going to provide you that kind of protection.

Now, all you amsoil salesmen proceed to fill in your BS pitches about how great it really is, which is why nobody mainstream uses it.

Oil is oil as long as you change it every 3000 miles.

I believe about any synthetic is better, going 10k on any oil is just asking for leaks and wear when the oil filter isn't change in a 3-5k interval

Not true today, 1998 Ford updated ever seal they used - pre 98 , yes - BIG PROBS. The use of Synthetics was growing as much as much as the use of Polymers. Although Synthetics are safer today , they weren't back then. Synthetic was in kind of a raw form unlike today. LOL , this truck has always had synthetic oil and has never leaked - 206,000 miles.

Here's a perfect example of Synthetic evolution - MERCON V

TCCoA , if you really want to know .

I have been to TCCoA. I have read all the crap any one person would ever want to read on oil. Who makes dino oil you ask? Nature would be the answer if you really want to get technical.

Yeah, I have a shop. Its not my mainline business either. You know when I change my oil in my company car? When the oil life indicator says so, which is around 5500 miles. You know why? Its a lease. I change it just like Ford wants it because I am turning it in when its done. If it has an oil related problem, it'll be fords problem not mine. (or whoever buys it)

My personal car, on the other hand, gets full synthetic changes at 2500 miles. It doesn't tick, slap, pop or groan at startup or any other time. 100K mile mark is less than 200 miles away, with the blower and all the other crap I added. I see people who run this oil, that oil and the other additive crap in their motors everyday. I see the results of such everyday too. You have to understand, most of the guys like me who operate a shop would just assume you went ahead and ran ungodly mileages on your oil, so when you have to have major repairs we make the bank. Really, do you think there is that much profit in changing oil? There's not. All the 16.95 and 19.95 oil changes you see advertised are simply loss leaders. A retailers cost on bulk oil from pennzoil is 1.5075 per quart. The filter costs 1.98 each (pz42 ford filter for 4.6, 5.4, 3.5 etc...) Thats right at $11 in costs of materials. Factor in the people to do it (say $8 an hour for a low paid employee and 15 minutes to do it = $2) Now you have $13 in it if that employee does at least 4 cars and hour. Factor in electricity, rent on the building, your managers salary, water, washer fluid, power steering fluid, all the top offs and your cost is about $20 or so on a decent day. Whatdaya get pricewise? Up to $30 if you're lucky and in an affluent area. Most of the time about $25. So you make $5 a change. You think we're getting rich off $5 a car? I'd have to change the oil on 10K cars annually to make $50K. (thats about 30 oil changes a day open 365 days a year and 10 hours a day with 3 bays running nonstop, and don't even start to think they all work for $8 an hour)You blame the shop owners out of ignorance, now you have been educated as to what the real story is.

Do you really think I'd advocate using the right products at the right intervals if I was only in it to make money? Hell no. I'd tell you to run 10K or more miles and blow up the motor so I could make bank replacing it. We're not all out to screw the public, just educate it.

If you want to read about the history of synthetics, with goofy music in the background where someone else is trying to sell off some more snake oils, read this link:
http://www.synlube.com/synthetic.htm

Amsoil wasn't first in anything, nor is it first today.

98Navi is anti Amsoil so take his rants with that in mind. Even when facts are shown he closes his mind.
I use the 0w 30 in my truck and I change it once a year. I just went over 100K on Friday.

Norm may as well be the spokesperson for Amsoil. The facts are that I can make more money if you don't change your oil for long intervals. I've shown you there is no money in oil changes. You make the call. Feel free to call me though when you need a new motor, I'll be happy to take a couple thousand dollar job

There are many users on here besides me that use Amsoil and are very happy with it. It has proven itself since 1972.

I...actually...find myself.....agreeing with....98Navi. There I said it. I guess you know what can freeze over now.

My only question is, if there is no money in changing oil, then why offer it as a service? Maybe just to get people in the door?
