4R70W rebuild

I was qouted $1,500 to rebuild my transmission. I was wondering if that sounds right? I know rebuild kits aren't that expensive. and how hard would it be if I was to just buy the rebuild kit and try to tackle it myself?

It's not that hard. I've seen people that get in over their head doing it. For you it will be very easy, or impossibly hard, or somewhere in between. I don't know your experience or skill level, so that's as far as I can narrow it down.

That is not a bad price at all. When I owned a repair shop I wouldn't do a 4R70W rebuild for that price. I charged about $2,000, depending on what it needed.

1500 is really cheap if that includes R&R especially. my brother in law rebuilds them in his backyard shop and he charges close to that if he R&R's them. If your getting a quote like that from a legitimate shop thats very reasonable.

R&R can also be rest and relaxation, but that doesn't fit in this senario

That's what i had mine rebuilt for about 4 months ago. After (in a fit of stupidity) i took it to the dealer when it developed a leak. They charged me $1900 to replace two seals, a gasket and torque converter.
