3.31 Gear Ratio

3.31 Gear Ratio
My 2010 F-150 was equipped with a 3.31 gear ratio. I have a few questions that hopefully can be answered.
1. The trans will drop into gear pretty hard when you idle from 50 down to about 30. Is this normal?
2. What are the Pros of this ratio
3. What are the Cons of this ratio.
4. Can anything be done to fix this?
Any info would be great.

2. Better gas mileage at on the highway.
3. Worse gas mileage in the city and not good for towing except light loads.
4. Fix what, the trannie problem or the cons. For the trannie, see my response. for the ratio cons, in all cases there are going to be pros and cons of each axle ratio. Lower ratio, lower mileage better towing.

I thought the lower gear in a 6 speed would hold it back even more and only really help out on thee highway... Even though Im still cruising at 1800 RPM going 70 on the highway. i hope that when I put 4.10's in that it helps around town. I can live with losing an MPG or two on the highway as long as my transmission lives to see 50K and my city mileage improves.

Also, as stated before me, a lower gear is a higher numerical number, meaning 3.31 is a higher gearing than 4.10s

I run 4.10 in my truck with the stock size tire on 16" rims and only see about 2300 to 2400RPMs at 70.

2300 is too much for me. Ill stick with the 4.10 and keep my ***** and gas mileage on the highway. And GLC, sorry about that, I was confusing myself. I guess this new 6 speed is just an extra gear to help with acceleration. So the first gear is actually lower? Hmmm. Do you have a list of the tranny gears on these things? I would like to do the math on my drive ratio on all 6 speeds if I get the 4.10's to pull my 35's

I love the 3.31 gears in mine. In fact I ordered it that way.
On the highway if I am going 70mph and I want to pass it doesn't take much at all.
Yes I don't tow anything heavy just 3 atv's on an aluminum trailer, but unless you are towing a fifth wheel then 3.31 are wicked for fuel millage and higher speed acceleration.
