Question E4OD to 5 speed swap?

Hey guys,
I want to put a Tremec TKO 600 5 spd in my '94 Lightning. Have most of it figured out but need to know about computer issues before I commit to the project. Anyone have an F-150 with a factory 5 spd? If so what year, motor, sequential or bank fire injection, speed density or mass air and do you know what computer and part # you have. Has anyone swapped a 5 spd into their F-150? I appreciate all responses and advice!!!

Thanks
Mike

My the closest thing I have to your lightning with a five speed is my 92 bronco with a 302. The computer is different I know, what else do you need specifically.

Oh, and welcome to the forums. Sounds like a great project! Any pics?

Wow, that's quite the collection!!!
I haven't gone beyond the research phase on the 5 speed swap yet. Still trying to figure out how to deal with computer issues. Not sure what it will involve. Some say I can probably run my stock Lightning computer, some say stang Speed Density and others say to run a stang Mass Air computer. I'd rather not have to do the M A conversion. I haven't found advice from anyone who has done the conversion and knows for sure. I'm hoping to get a solid answer before I tear into this project as the truck is my daily driver.

Well when guys do ZF5 swaps in their broncos/F150s to have a super strong stick (but it would be waaaaay slow for your lightning) some change to a computer from a stick or C6 truck. If you keep the auto computer, it will freak out and set codes and possibly a CE light. Not a big deal unless you cant pass emmissions with a CE light.

SWEET LOOKERS! Gotta love older black fords...

Do you have instant messenger?

I'm afraid the absence of the E4OD will make the computer go into limp home mode and really screw up the motors ability to run right. If it was just CEL
I wouldn't care and emmisions are not an issue here. I am planning a Tremec TKO 600 conversion to handle the power of the replacement motor I'll be building next summer. Should be real fun to drive and alot more versatile than the auto. I always thought Ford should have done it from the factory as an option since it is a sport truck. Thanks, I DO love black and I think the '92-'96
F-150's & Bronco's are some of the best looking trucks ever designed.
Don't have I M (or if I do I don't know it).

The consensus was that it would not go to limp mode. Are the lightning computers different in some way?

If you ever download MSN, Yahoo, or AIM messenger, it would be cool to chat with ya.

Side note... Here are my black ones.

Check out a ECU for an F250 with the 5.8 and manual tranny. You could also call Mike Troyer the Superchips Distrubitor and talk to him about shutting off the tranny functions at the ECU. Below is his sig.

Well I've had some say it's not an issue and others think it wont run right without feedback from the E4OD. Im not exactly sure what is different about the Lightning computers, I've just been told they're different. The tag on my door post says C3P3. No idea what the part # is though. Hey, nice black ones!!!

JMC, Thanks I'll check that out. I thought I could get an F-150 manual comp but the parts guy I talked to said the same thing, F-250 for a 5.8 with manual trans. Apparently they didn't offer a manual trans 5.8 F-150 for '94.
Thanks for posting the link, I'll try E-mailing Mike to see if he has a solution

Here's ya some F-150's

Mike,

Go to http://www.car-parts.com Do a search for a 1994 F-250 Computer Box Engine. You will see ECUs listed for all the motor combos. There is one for a 1994 5.8 with a MT, should be 7th from the bottom.

Yep, no five speed 351 or 5.4 in a half ton truck for the last three body styles from the factory.

im in the middle of a simalare swap

95 f150 excab currently no drivetrain

old combo 302 4R70W

new rollercam 351w (out of 97 f250) and M5OD "while it lasts"

im thinking everything with the computer will be fine except im sure it will through a cel but it should run fine

ive convertered a nissan maxima and it ran fine (didnt even through a CEL) so i would think the same for this

the only thing im worryed about is the driveshaft length (the 5spd is about an 1" shorter than the auto but there should be enough) and bypassing nutrual/park switch so the truck will start

you should look into the MMR TKO900 http://www.modularmustangracing.com/ if it can holding up in a stang that goes 154mph im sure it would hold up in a f150 that goes mid 130s or alot less

for the extra 500$ it would be a nice piece of mind and considering how much more your truck wieghs than a stang you might need the extra beef

I'm doing a similar swap with my '95 F150 4x4. It's a stock 5.8 w/ E40D. I'm concerned about the ECU so I'm going to use one out of an F250 4x2 5.8 5 speed like someone suggested to you. Ford never put a manual in a 1/2 ton 5.8 so using F250 parts is my only avenue. Hopefully that will work. If I'm done before you, I'll let you know how it worked out.
