95 2wd tranny shudder - diagnose?

I've been noticing that while driving at around town speeds (under 50) and particularly while going uphill at 35-45mph that I get a shudder like driving over forest service roads (washboard) as the tranny apparently shifts up and down.

When I select "OD off" at the shift lever it still does it but not as much.

Anyone have an idea?
Converter?
Lock up failing?
OD failing?
Sensors?

It has 179k and I think an E4OD (??) something like that?

Thanks for any advise.

It's probably torque converter shudder, but it could be an engine miss.

Changing ALL of the trans fluid often will fix shudder if it hasn't been doing it for too long. If it shudders for a long time the torque converter clutch is damaged and must be replaced.

The quick lube places that have a fluid exchange machine is a good way to change all of the fluid.
