dinging/rattling noise in drive stopped
this noise is like 50% of the time.. I can be driving along and then pull to a red light.. when my window is down i can hear it and its like a dinging or some noise under my car.. I just had my transmission serviced a few days ago and they said all was perfect and i noticed it the following day... when im in park or neutral the sound goes away but put back in drive it starts... im 99% sure its something with transmission since that is only moving part and all... any advice? its ilke a screeching rattling dinging noise and its random

the truck had the transmission serviced last Wednesday and like the following day I heard it happening...... you only hear it when the car is in drive and door/window is open.. I don't think it has anything to do with the exhaust but im ganna get a catback system really soon..

Well, the E4OD is known to have a few problems, but ringing isn't one of them. And most of the others were fixed in '95, so I doubt it's an INternal trans problem.
Also, there's nothing in the trans that "moves" when you're stopped in D that isn't moving when you're stopped in P or N, so that's another reason to look OUTside the trans.
If there's someone you trust who'll help, have him sit in the truck holding the brake (w/the e-brake set & ALL 4 tires chocked, preferrably with the front bumper against a wall or tree) with it idling in D while you crawl around under it listening for the ringing. Use a 3' piece of garden hose as a stethoscope.
