Stalls in gear 00 5.4

Ok, I know there are many like this on here but none have seemed to help, or are exactly the same.

Info - 00 F150 4x4 5.4 (L)

Not sure it's linked, but for awhile, I'd be driving along, and my odometer and stereo lights would start blinking from bright to dim. Along with that would come the ticking from a relay.

Here's what happening now. It starts and idles fine. If I put it in reverse, the rpm's drop and the engine stalls, really quick. If I put it in drive, the rpm's drop, then surge, back and forth, then it stalls. If I give it some gas in drive, I can drive around but the engine is surging quite a bit. As soon as I come to a stop, it dies. It's not the IAC, thats already been swapped.

I was doing some offroading on Sunday, came home, it drove fine. Drove around Monday, it was fine. But as I was pulling into my driveway on Monday, it died. Now it's stuck that way.

I'm thinking something to do with the torque converter, but I really have no idea how to check anything on it. I don't have a code scanner, but that doesn't matter because it's not throwing any. I'm tempted to tow it to a dealer because I love them so much, but unless I win the lottery tonight....

Any ideas?

I did a tranny flush probably 4000 miles ago or so, the level is fine. Battery is only a week old, optima. I've had a bad coil before, but it didn't act anything like this.

Those are symptoms of low trans fluid, a loose internal filter, or a really worn out trans.

Thanks.

I'm gonna pull the pan sometime this weekend, inbetween getting fatter, and see if the filter became loose somehow. This time I'm going to actually put a plug in the pan, damn mercon V isn't cheap.

The truck has just short of 90k miles on it. It better last longer than that!

Another question about the OD light blinking...
My check engine light doesn't come on at all, except after engine stalls of course. If the OD light blinks, is it storing codes? I thought the check engine light would stay on if any codes were stored.

It sounds more like the torque converter. My dad's F-150 did something like that for awhile and the torque converter was bad.

Any idea how to check to see if that is the problem?

If the OD light is blinking then the transmission needs immediate attention.

Well, I pulled the pan, and the filter was still in place. So much for that idea. It's going to the dealer next. Scary!

So it went to the dealer. Turns out I tore the converter clutch apart. $338 later...
