'03 F150 Lift

What's up guys.
I just found this site today while looking at different pictures of lift kits. I plan on getting a 6" suspension, not sure what brand yet, and I plan on running 35's..
Few questions..
The shop I was at getting prices showed me a Rough Country 4-5" lift that was about $1500 installed, compared to almost $3000 installed for a Fabtech, Pro Comp, etc. On Rough Country's site, they say that the lift will clear 35's, and I am assuming that no trimming will be involved. I'm not sure what tire/ wheel combo I will run. I just started looking at lifts and oversized tires so I'm pretty much a noob! Any thoughts you guys have will be appreciated. Tell me what you think!
Thanks,
Andy

Also, the lift will be mainly for looks and kept on roadways. I don't plan on doing any mudding..

the Fabtech, RCD, and BDS are the best kits for the 97-03 F150 4x4's

but for road use/ light off road use you can get away with a Rancho or RCX.

The 4" rancho will clear 35's on a 10" wide wheel with 4.5" of backspacing. You MIGHT have to trim slightly. Id honestly look at the RCX they sell them on Ebay for about 900.

If you plan to offroad id really suggest the higher 3.

Thanks..
I just saw the pics of the Rough country lift that the other guy put in his red f150. I really don't know what I will do. Are there any drivetrain modifications needed? ex: driveshaft? What gears are you guys running? I plan on staying with my 3.73's for now.

Most people prefer Fabtech on these style trucks.

It's the only one I've ever had so I can't tell ya about the others, but I like the Fabtech

4:56's are best for 35's. bigger than 35's go with 4:88s

Yeah, i love how they look with the 6" fabtech and the 3" body on 37's.. I could see doing that after the 35's wear... I plan on selling my four wheeler, so that will free up some money, but it's still a tough choice lol

Will my truck be pretty boggy for acceleration or towing using 3.73 gearing on 35's? I know it will be quite a bit less..

with a 4-5" lift you should need to extend the driveshaft. I know some kits come with a spacer for the driveshaft.

The gearing is up to you, 3:73's and 35's isnt bad. Do you ever plan on going bigger?

4.56 gears would get you back up to a stock ratio

After the 35's wear, i would probly do a body lift and get 37's. I would definitely re gear going bigger than 35.

are you referring to the front axles?

My kit came with spacers for the front axles but it didn't need anything for the drive shaft.

do you tow often? if so 35's and 4.88's arent horrible. The highway mileage will suffer alittle do to high RPM's but the city driving would be great. So would towing

Ill be running 5.13's and 38's (supposed to be 40's) and my RPMS @ 65 will be around 2700

yeah front.

its hard for a company to do anything for the rear axle, theres SOOO many factors that make the length of the rear driveshaft its too hard to offer a spacer.

Minimonster17 had his extended i know of.

EDIT: oops i meant with a 4-5" lift you SHOULDNT need to extend the drive shafts

If you plan on going bigger than 35's just go ahead and do 4:88s.

They will work with the 35's.

Or you could just do the 35's now and save for the re-gear and do that when you get the money.

The

3:73's work ok with the 35s but a re gear is much better performance and mpg wise.
