you would see better gains if you do a lot of city driving with those tires you have a lot of rolling mass which makes your truck work harder.
This is a very good thread about gears it sold me on doing a re-gear.
4.10's or 4.56's

+1 for parting it out. It may take a little bit longer, but you'll get a lot more money for everything.
I'd just keep the truck and change your driving habits. Drive less, do more in one trip, don't speed up towards stops/red lights, etc. Unless you buy some $2000 civic or something, you're going to be in the hole when you buy a new car anyways.

I would just buy a small car with over 100k for 1500 bucks. Park your truck and just drive the car on the weekdays then treat yourself to the truck on weekends.
Your going to loose alot more than 1500 if you sell that truck now, might as well hold onto it and get the car with the money you would have lost by selling. That way when the economy improves and if gas comes down you can get what that truck is truly worth.
Seeing a truck that pretty go for 17k almost makes me want to cry.

get a second job, cut out other things in your life, and keep the truck. Its beautiful. Very well done. Maybe look into public transport ? Bike (either one, but bicycle will save ya quite a bit of cash around town) etc. if you want it, find a way to keep it.
Scott also had a good idea. I remember back in Highschool I had a big oel Chevy I could barely afford to keep running. Bought a POS Samurai for $150 and was golden. Damn near 30 mpg's and a fun little beater. You can even take it camping and what not.
