What shocks for my Screw?

I have an stock 01 supercrew with 57,000 miles and it still has the oem shocks

I have been reading a lot of posts on shocks and everyone of them seem to say something different.

I drive mostley on road, but do go offroad a few times a month.

I have heard that anything is better then stock, but should I go with a inexpensive monroe or gabriel that start at about 20 bucks a shock, or should I go with some bilsteins for about 70 bucks a shock, or ranchos???

I will be buying shocks shortly, and any input would be great!!!

well my 97 is only 2wd but I recently put on a set of Monroe Reflex for just under $200. I guess what you go with depends on how hard you drive it. If you beat the heck outta it off road then go with somethine made for it like Bilstien or Ranchos but you'll pay more.

With shocks, you get what you pay. I've run Bilsteins on 2 vehicles and love them, but they are also expensive. Anything will be a big improvement over stock.

Cool Use Rancho now, but OEM went a long way

I have a 2001 SC 4x4. Replaced the OEM shocks at about 109,000. Still operational, but the right rear was leaking. I Had them tested at the Dearborn proving grounds at Ford. All 4 were still in pretty good shape (i Could not believe it) Replaced with Rancho 5000 all four corners. At 122,000 The right rear had leaked again. (had the axle looked at, all is OK) Rancho replaced the rears for free! "lifetime warranty" I'll keep an eye on the RH Rear but so far so good, hopefully just a coincidence. 124,500 mile now.
So. OEM are good. Rancho 5000 are better? Rancho 9000's or Bilstiens are even better?? Choose wisely.

What shock would you recommend for an 05 4x2 Screw that sees a lot of highway?

I will probably go with Bilsteins. I can get them at autozone for 69.00 bucks a shock and If they go bad I can just take then Back and get a new one and not worry about sending it back to bilstein.

Well I got my bilsteins in the mail yesterday, and am planing on installing them this weekend. Im going to do the job in my driveway, and im going to try to do it without jacking the truck up, and leaving the tires on...is this possible? Does anyone have any advise for me? Thanks

Wait a second, are you sure you can install these? I don't know if you were kidding but there is no way in the world you could install a set of shocks without jacking the vehicle up and not removing the wheels. I'm just looking out for your safety so don't take it the wrong way.

Ah, yeh... You might want to have someone helping you out I don't think there is any possible way to install them without jacking up the truck and removing the tire.

The one thing about Bilsteins I forgot to mention, is that they are a PITA to install. I can't image installing them again without removing the tire.
