Exclamation Body Lift Welded??

Ok. So I got my body lift, but I have a question. I looked in the back wheel well and instead of having the two middle metal brackets welded in, they are siliconed in. I thought it was standard to weld them into place. Is it safe to have them just siliconed in, or should I go back and tell them to weld those puppies into place?!? If they are supposed to be welded, then this offroad shop is screwing me over big time!

Well , basically they are overload spacers for the bed not having a support there. So if silicone can keep them in place I think it would be OK.

If your preference is to have them welded, that is going to be thougher than just silicone. Be sure to clean and paint immediatly to avoid corrosion. I welded mine.

Do these guys install body lifts often? Kind of funny. I would not trust that at all. I bolted mine. Easy to do, and you don't have to pay someone to weld them(if you dont have a welder)

Well I decided to get them welded by the same place that installed them. They do lifts all the time! In fact that is all they do! Lifts and Tires. I'm hoping that they won't charge me for the welding though. I had asked about it earlier and he said the silicone was ok, but if they slipped out then he would weld them. I think better safe than sorry. he had better not charge me though!

JMTruck- what do you mean paint them?? Does that help prevent corrosion that much?? I was just going to put lift lips to cover them up and forget about it. Should I buy some spray paint to paint over them also??

Hey Squanto- I just went to your website. Bad *** truck my friend!! Just a question, you have those 5 1/4 components in the front, right? I was looking into components and wasn't sure what size would fit. Did you have to do any custom work to the holes, or did you find a way to fit them into the factory holder/slot? Also, how do you like the Flowmaster 50?? I was looking into getting one with the Deltaflow system. I'm getting a little tired of the drone with the turbo-tubes I've got now. I want either that, or the 40 with delta flow. Not sure yet!

I think the shop should do that. After welding you will notice that the paint in the frame will burn and peel off leaving the area unprotected. It's a good idea to have the area painted for protection and then, the lips will do the rest as for esthetics.

At some point I consider Squanto's idea on bolting then to the frame, but the fact is that I have an uncle that has all the welding equipment you can imagine. He help me out.

Exclamation

I went to B&C Offroad in Pasadena. Yeah, they have given me alot more trouble than I had expected. Although they did give me some of the best prices in town. I got my Chrome westin Nerf Bars for 265. Body lift installed was about 475 all together. I got the eagle 589 16x10's that were supposed to be 129 a piece for only 109 a piece. The prices are what led me to them, but the hassle isn't worth it. I've decided to do all my truck stuff from 4 Wheel Parts from now on. They have a better staff and more reliable service! I'm hoping to save up enough for a spindle lift for graduation. I figure My parents will go 50/50 with me on that! Hopefully.

Just regular paint. If you can get a good one against rust, get it. Like Rust Oleum or same. Wire brush the area before painting.
