Platinum Running Board Problem

My boss has a 2010 Platinum with the automatic running boards. Recently the drivers side as not been working correctly, and when he brought it back to the dealer they told him the motor is bad. They wanted big $1800 to repair it, so he didn't have it done.

Is there a source for these motors, aftermarket or stock?

Thanks,

Steve

That's what I was thinking and I'm curious about the problem as I'm about to pick up a 2011 Platinum.

My mistake, it's a 2009 and he's over 60000 miles......no warranty.

What are they doing, How are they acting? This is the first I have heard of any problems with the boards.

The drivers side stopped working.
He took it apart Friday, and removed the motor assembly. When he took the motor apart he found the problem.......one of the magnets is broken, and the rotor is scored as well.

Not sure what his next move is going to be, he's trying to get warranty replacement or find a junked one to get the motor off.

I am sure he can find an aftermarket runningboard that does the same thing for less money. sounds like 1800 is what it takes to replace both.

Doesn't Ford just use the AMP Research running boards? They look exactly the same. I think the motors from them were less than $100 to replace.

Yeah, Ford uses the AMP boards. But he called AMP and they told him that Ford changed a few little things so that their motors are not a direct fit. You have to get parts thru Ford now.

The complete AMP kit sells for $1120.......the dealer is just trying to make money off of him.

Maybe try a salvage yard? www.car-part.com is one site that searches salvage yards.

I tried to search real quick and under 09 F150 running board was this part listing:

LH 'LEO' PWR MOTOR ONLY!
Stock #P36764
Price $300
Mikes Auto Parts USA-MI(Flint) 1-800-826-6467

Not sure what LEO means but LH is left hand which should be the driver's side and it says power motor so maybe that is the part he needs?

He ended up finding a motor in a junk yard in Michigan.............probably the one you listed. It cost him $315 delivered............so I would bet it is the one you found.

We installed it last Friday, and it works great. He's happy again......LOL

easy fix

Dealer told me $1900 to fix. I did a little research on internet and figured out that all i needed to do was to grease the gears. I did not have this problem until we had a ton of rain. I removed 8 bolts to drop running board and unplug. take bolt out of the gear that turns the shaft that moves the running board up. Remove the bolts that connect motor to running board (should be 2 or 3) that a hammer and ratchet extension and knock shaft out. remove shaft casing and clean gears then regrease at reinstall. It took me less than 2 hours but its worth the $1900 I saved.
Hope it works for you

2009 F150 passenger side running boards

My passenger side running board is working in reverse. When door opens the board goes in & comes out when the door is closed.

Is there some type of module that needs programming or something.

Thanks!
