4.10's or 3.73's
Well its about that time after drivin the hell out of this truck I feel it needs some gear in it. So for those of you that have made the change to either gear please tell me your thoughts. If you have taken it to the track after the change what improvements were made. I drive the truck daily and would like to keep the drivability. The truck will also be sprayed with nitrous.
thanks,
sebastian

I would also like some actual times of trucks with 410-3.73.
I had a chevy with 4:10s.Why do people make a big deal about it.It is not like your truck is cruising at 4000 rpm all the time!My chevy was a great daily driver.I would however like to know performance #s.I did have one problem,My truck would only due about 100 mph in third.Gm trucks will not go into overdrive at wide open throttle. You have to let off.I did get it to about 130mph by feathering it.Soon as my pedal went down a little more it went into 3rd and was like hitting the brakes.Fords are not like that.As you all know.Other than that one problem I loved the 410s!! I ran a 14.9 at 92mph.This was faster than most lightnings at my track back then. They were running 15.1-15.2All i had was a thermostat/hypertech programmer/kn filter, dual exhaust,410s w/loc-rite lockerStock they were running 15.8-16.2

4.10's are NOT too much.
I turn 2,000 RPM at 70 MPH with 3.73 and LT245x16's -- and that would calculate out to be 2,200 RPM at 70 MPH -- clearly not excessive.
I'd rather have 4.56 -- would be 2,450 -- which is what I do at 85 now.
Thanks to OD, you can afford to have some decent gearing.
(BTW -- I got 15 MPG last Sunday on a 285 mile jaunt at speeds of 85 to 95 -- 4 people -- gassed to overflow both ends.)

I have the 4:10's and LOVE THEM!!!!!
The rpm with 3.55@ 60mph in third is 2521rpm
with the 4.10@ 60mph in third is 2910rpm.
As you can see it's not that much rpm change, but you sure can tell by the way it pulls(alot harder with 4.10's). You will need a chip to correct the speedo, but who doesn't have a chip. I use sal's chip. I had the gears first and ran the truck, so I know what is to be had by the gears only
Can you still get a killer deal on (NOS) nitrous? e-mail me.

I bought my gears from US Gear part #F75W-4209-EA. This is for the 9.75, price $322. You also need Ford Part# N811024-S100 and this is $7.92 (this is a pinion nut).
With this set you'll need pinion shims and side carrier shims. I had to modify 10.25 pinion shims to work.
Ford from the sterling plant has 4.10 gears. Ford motorsport number M-4209-H410. This is the factory ford gear and when replacing factory gears, 99.9% of the time you do not have to reshim. Just reuse shims that came out of 355's. You will need to buy the same nut #N811024-S100.
Now for the great news. List price is $199 if you call a good motorsports dealer. For me, that was Aldridge in Portland Oregon. And they said they'd sell me a set for $169. If I only knew this before, I would have deffinately gone with Ford gear. Not just for $ sake, but headache of resetting up the gears.
