Post Dash Kit

Just got a JC Whitney catalog in the mail and was flipping through. Noticed a black carbon fiber dash kit selling for $229. I don't imagine its real CF, but still looked good. Also a self dimming mirror for $98. Has anyone ever bought anything from them. I always figured they sold junk. Just wondering what the quality is like.

Do a search, someone put pics of their carbon-fiber dash kit installed online, forget who though.

What % tint do you have? Does it match your back windows?

I always thought they sold junk too. Back in 1989, I had a Toyota 4x4 and wanted a 4" lift. JC Whitney had a lift and it was less than half price of the Trailmaster kit that was available. I called them and they would not disclose the brand, but when I asked the guy if it was a Trailmaster, he said, I can't tell you, but you should order it. It came in and low and behold, it was a Trailmaster kit. So, this carbon fiber kit might be the real thing.

Some one on here bought a kit from JC Whitney and returned because it looked bad and wouldn't fit properly. I beleive it was a wood one though.

The only thing I ever bought from them was a "custom molded carpet" for the front of a Dodge I had. It was two feet too short and three feet too wide.

I know they're a big outfit but I don't trust them...

I have the 35% passing tint. That the darkest "legally" allowed tint. It looks a lot darker that it is, almost matching the rear window. I've seen the post, but its hard to see the real effect from a pix. It seens kind of gaudy to me, but the dash sure needs something to spice it up. I tried a burled wood kit at a local store, but that didn't fit well with the fast truck image.

Yes, I saw that mirror too. No dimensions so I don't know if all rear views are the same size. The big problem in my opinion is that you have to run a wire to it somehow (I think...). This will look bad since there is nothing to hide the wire. Good idea though. I have driven a Lincoln with the self dimming thing and it is a neat feature...

As for the hiding the wire, I thought about doing it the same way that my Explorer Limited is set up. It has a small plastic channel that goes up from the mirror base to the headliner. It's barely noticable.

Hey guys,
The back window is so dark I'm not sure the autodim rearview would work very well. I don't even flip my manual to 'night'.

You're right about the rear window tint. However, I hardly ever use the AC and drive with the rear window open, so I get the full effect of the glaring light.

Thumbs up

What's the deal with the "tint" on the rear window? A buddy of mine (who does tons of Ford dealsership tinting all over the Houston area) says that it is not really tint, but a "shaded glass". He also said that it offers minimal UV protection. I know that he's not trying to get my $$$$ (is doing my truck for $10 and a 6-pak), so what's up? It is too dark to tint over, but I don't want the sun to farg up my seats. So any of y'all know anything different?

DUCK
