XM / AUX how does it work ???

Whats up guys, I just picked up an 05 Crew Cab and it appears to have XM installed. I just cant figure out how to access it. I tried the AUX button on the radio but it says nothing is hooked up to it.
The XM antenna is there.

My first guess is that you need to subscribe to XM / Serius radio.
Contact them to set up a subscription, you will need to give them the radios ESN # or trucks VIN # and a credit card or bank account # so you can start coughing over a monthly payment to them.

Your radio unit my not have the XM support. Even on a XM radio that does not have a subscription you will get the advertisement to join channel. Toggling the XM/AUX should make the XM Chan 001 display. May be off on the chan #

What type of antenna are you seeing? Is a black magnetic or is it a stock antenna?

It says XM and has a thin wire attached to it.

I believe its the small magnetic one (They ran it to the inside of the cab so im not sure if its magnetic. Its sitting on the top of dash)

regardless of wether its paid for or not, I should have the XM channel advertisements

I agree. A factory antenna would not be mounted to the dash. Mine, like all F-150's I believe, is mounted to the exterior cab, just above the windshield on the passanger side.

hey bud, i removed the center counsel around the radio and found the wire unplug. seems they had an external unit and didnt bother taking the antenna with them. There was also another wire that was ran outside into the engine bay and into the fender. I went ahead and removed both. No more mess of wires. thanks !!

no problem mad. The wire to the fender was probablly the FM transmitter signal booster. For all the work that they put into running that to the antenna, they could have easily installed an FM Mod and had 100x better sound quality.

noobs...
