projector headlights

Anyone retrofitted projectors into 87-91 truck? I did some searching around the interwebs but couldn't find anyone who had done it, and was wondering what it might look like. I want hids but I dont wanna blind everyone else out there. Pics and/or helpful hints are greatly appreciated!

Hi.

You can have yer cake and eat it too. And avoid buying a cheap chinglish POS aftermarket so-called 'projector-style' headlite assembly.

If it can be done on older Mustangs, it can be done fer yer truck. All you need is a pair of heads with CLEAR lenses ( not fluted ). Fleabay, Amazon, etc.

And a retrofit kit from www.theretrofitsource.com

The end result will be fantastic, glare-free, lighting. And it will look great ( far better than those heads you were considering.

good luck

Thanks! Yeah I was thinking about getting the morimoto mini h1 kit but wasnt sure if they'd look too small in there or not. Now to track down some clear lenses...

Hi.

No sir - remember, you don't see the actual projector body - the shroud you choose dictates the overall perceived 'size' of the projector. Notwithstanding the minor lenses difference ( 2.5" versus 3" in an FX-R fer example ).

But - you need to check if you could fit anything larger than a Mini ( H1 or D2S) in that specific bucket. You need to email/call the great folks at TRS fer some tech/fitment advice, once you have those heads and have had a chance to open them to do some proper measurements.

Good luck! Gonna look great !

Thanks for all the help! It's looking to me that if I want to buy heads with clear lenses I'd have to do a front clip swap from 8th gen to 9th, so I thought about possibly making my own. Not sure how hard that'd be tho. Something like this

Hi.

That would work ( although they would have no UV coating, so you'd need to apply yer own, and maintain it ).

A vacuum former is another method.

Some info on that just for example - second link shows one in action ( and watchin' all four parts of the vidya series is a hoot in itself ).

Good luck!

I know you said 8th gen but here is a mini H1 1st gen lightning.
I really think you could fit a mini D2S in there. The 3.0's are a good deal better then the mini H1 6.0.'s

Nothing like bringing a dead thread back to life. Anyway, I never quite got around to trying this because school happened, and unfortunately that means money goes places other than my truck. I recently figured out how to easily make the lenses for the headlights, and it for me thinking about this again. Has anyone even heard of this being done to an 8th gen?? I don't really wanna drop the money on the projectors if it ends up looking dumb, so pictures would be nice. They look sweet in the 9th gen heads, just not sure about 8th. Or if someone was really bored and could work Photoshop well that could also work. Again, apologies for the thread revival, and the novel I just wrote lol.
